Faculty Professional & Leadership Development Awards Program

Supporting the career development of early and mid-career faculty in our department who exhibit particular promise in advancing into leadership roles in academic medicine.

2023 Request for Applications

We welcome applications to the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Funding Program in support of Professional and Leadership Acumen Development. This pilot program is intended to support the career development and professional growth of early and mid-career faculty in the Department who exhibit particular promise in advancing into leadership roles in academic medicine. Awardees will receive 10% FTE protected time for a period of 3 or 6 months in order to pursue the development goals and activities proposed.  The number of awardees is dependent on availability of funds. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences faculty on the University Medical Line (UML), University Tenure Line (UTL), and Non-Tenure Line (NTL), Clinician Educators (CE), Clinical Instructors, and Instructors are invited to apply.
  • Affiliates, graduate students, residents, fellows, postdoctoral scholars, and research associates are not eligible.
  • A minimum FTE of 75% is required in order to apply for this program
     

Awardees will be notified on or before October 2, 2023. Funding to be provided in calendar 2023-2024 with no extensions.

Development plans will be evaluated according to the clarity and feasibility of goals, alignment with departmental mission commitments, quality of the proposed development plan, and representation from different areas and components of the Department. 

Submission Guidelines

By 6:00PM, Friday, August 4, 2023, please submit one PDF file containing the following in the order listed below via the online form:

File name: “LASTNAME_2023Leadership.pdf”

All development plans should use at least 11-point font size, 1-inch margins, with standard word and single line spacing. The page header should contain the name of the applicant.

  1. Development Plan (1-page limit):
    Please provide a one-page statement of the value of the protected time in creating an opportunity for professional or leadership development for the applicant. Include a brief timeline for proposed activities which demonstrates the feasibility of the goals. This may include traditional professional development activities (trainings, conferences, publications) as well as innovative approaches which reflect the challenges of professional development in the midst of a pandemic and the urgent need to respond to injustices in our society. Funded development plans and completed project reports will be shared with departmental leadership and division chiefs.

  2. Short Biography (1/2-page):  One paragraph biography for the applicant.
     

Proposals that do not conform to the above guidelines will be returned without review.

Award Recipients by Year

This pilot program is intended to support the career development of early and mid-career faculty in our department who exhibit particular promise in advancing into leadership roles in academic medicine. Awardees will receive 10% FTE protected time for a period of 3, 6, or 9 month duration in order to pursue the goals and activities proposed. 

Proposals were evaluated according to the clarity and feasibility of goals, alignment with departmental mission commitments and priority areas, quality of the professional and leadership development opportunity proposed, and representation from different areas and components of the Department.
