Who We Are

Growing up I wanted to dramatically change education in schools, making education less rigid and more person-centered. Years later I have been fortunate enough to become an educator, as the Adult Division Chief and Residency Program Director at Stanford. My core beliefs about education are unchanged. My philosophy places residents as central participants in shaping and defining their training, promoting involvement in program improvement, and prioritizing well-being. The training structure here is dynamic by design. Residents who actively participate in the creation of their training experience flourish here. For me, residency training is first and foremost about education, and education is best when accounting for individual differences while sharing common goals.

Dr. Anita Kishore is a Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist whose passion is educational innovation and advocacy. She completed her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the Yale Child Study Center. She is a U.S. State Department Fulbright Global Scholar where she has built and strengthened mentorship in psychiatry for trainees around the world as well as built an international collaborative mentorship network to connect them, with the goal of increasing access to psychiatric services worldwide. She also serves as the Chair of the Wellness Subcommittee for the School of Medicine Faculty Senate. She has completed the Harvard Macy Institute Program for Educators in the Health Professions and was honored to be a recipient of the Chairman’s Award for Excellence in Education. As Associate Training Director, Dr. Kishore focuses on wellness, mentorship, psychotherapy, training in child and adolescent psychiatry as well as global health.

As Assistant Training Director, Dr. Edwards focuses on recruitment and scholarly concentrations. Dr. Edwards served as chief resident for community sites and for recruitment in 2020-21, as well as co-lead for our Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council (DIAC). He completed a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at Emory University.

Dr. Ehrie is an interventional psychiatrist who sees patients in the Stanford Depression Clinic and provides interventional treatments including electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and ketamine. He is the director of the outpatient SAINT TMS clinical service, and he also helps conduct clinical trials in the Brain Stimulation Lab. In his role as Assistant Training Director, Dr. Ehrie focuses on the didactic curriculum, and he loves nothing more than to have residents drop by his office to check in or chat.

Dr. Saenz is a public and community psychiatrist and a proud alumnus of Stanford’s psychiatry residency program. As a clinician, he cares for patients in several of the department’s diversity-focused clinics, including La Clinica Latina and THRIVE, and at La Clinica de la Raza, a federally qualified health center serving Alameda county. He also supervises residents in multiple teaching clinics, supporting their clinical development and commitment to underserved populations.

In his role as Assistant Training Director, Dr. Saenz contributes to the development of the residency program’s public/community psychiatry track and helps shape the social and community psychiatry didactics for all residents. He also leads policy initiatives related to the program’s call and jeopardy systems. His professional interests include advancing health equity, mentoring the next generation of diverse mental health providers, and strengthening community-based psychiatric care through education and advocacy.
