Tumors in the head and neck can affect important things we do every day—like talking, breathing, eating, and swallowing. These tumors can be benign (not cancer) or malignant (cancer). They may form in places like the mouth, throat, voice box (larynx), thyroid, or salivary glands.
At Stanford Medicine, our team of head and neck surgeons works with many different experts to care for each patient. This includes cancer doctors, ENT (ear, nose, and throat) doctors, speech and swallowing therapists, radiologists, and reconstructive surgeons. We call this a multidisciplinary team, which means you get care from many kinds of specialists all working together.
We make a personal treatment plan for each patient. Our goal is to remove or treat the tumor while helping you keep the ability to talk, eat, and breathe as normally as possible.
We use the latest tools and treatments, such as:
Surgery, including robotic and minimally invasive surgery
Radiation therapy
Targeted cancer treatments
Reconstructive surgery
Speech and swallowing therapy
