For Visiting Researchers

Contact Us

Many faculty members in the Department of OHNS accept visiting researchers to work with them at Stanford, mostly unpaid.

There are several types of visiting researcher appointments. Each appointment type has different requirements, application processes and allowed/expected duties.

The primary goal is to develop scholarly work. Potential candidates must clearly demonstrate their relevant research experience, education, skills and motivation.

After an appointment is approved, our department will apply for a J1 visa for those needing one, except in the category of Student Intern.

The usual term length is approximately 3 months up to one year. An additional term may be requested for some titles.

OHNS Faculty Affairs Administrator is responsible for submitting appointment requests and visa applications. Appointment requests generally have to be submitted 30 days prior to desired start date or 60 days if a visa is needed, but some appointment types require more or less time.
