Assistant, Associate or Full Professor (Clinician-Scientists)

The Department of Ophthalmology at Stanford University is seeking to fill positions for several academic board-certified or board-eligible ophthalmologists or optometrists in the general clinical areas of ophthalmology as well as the following sub-specialty areas: Glaucoma, Uveitis, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Retina/Vitreoretina, and Pediatrics; we are seeking individuals to join the Department as Assistant, Associate, or full Professor (based on the candidate’s qualification) in the University Medical Line (UML) and Clinician Educator Line (CE). We are particularly interested in candidates who have an MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree including OD, in a related field.

The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.

Faculty or academic rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

Glaucoma Subspecialty Search: We expect the successful candidate to have successfully completed a glaucoma ophthalmology fellowship, be board-certified, board-eligible, or in the examination process, and have a demonstrated record of, or commitment to, clinical teaching and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine.

Uveitis Subspecialty Search: We expect the successful candidate to have successfully completed a uveitis or medical retina ophthalmology fellowship, be board-certified, board-eligible, or in the examination process, and have a demonstrated record of, or commitment to, clinical teaching and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine.

Neuro-Ophthalmology Subspecialty Search: We expect the successful candidate to have successfully completed a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship, be board-certified, board-eligible, or in the examination process, and have a demonstrated record of, or commitment to, clinical teaching and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine.

Vitreoretinal Subspecialty Search: We expect the successful candidate to have successfully completed a clinical/surgical vitreoretinal fellowship, be board-certified, board-eligible, or in the examination process, and have a demonstrated record of, or commitment to, clinical teaching and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine.

Pediatric Subspecialty Search: We expect the successful candidate to have successfully completed a clinical/surgical pediatric fellowship, be board-certified, board-eligible, or in the examination process, and have a demonstrated record of, or commitment to, clinical teaching and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine.

Cornea Subspecialty Search: We expect the successful candidate to have successfully completed a clinical/surgical cornea fellowship, be board-certified, board-eligible, or in the examination process, and have a demonstrated record of, or commitment to, clinical teaching and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine.

Open Subspecialty Search: We expect the successful candidate to have successfully completed fellowship in their subspecialty, be board-certified, board-eligible, or in the examination process, and have a demonstrated record of, or commitment to, clinical teaching and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine.

This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. Stanford Oculofacial Plastic & Orbital Surgery Faculty

The Department of Ophthalmology at Stanford University is accepting applications for two ASOPRS trained oculofacial plastic surgeons at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor in the University Medical Line or Clinician Educator Line.

The Stanford Oculofacial Plastic & Orbital Surgery Service currently has 3 ASOPRS trained oculofacial specialists and an ASOPRS approved AUPO-FCC accredited oculofacial 2-year fellowship. The service manages the full breath of oculoplastic surgery including eyelid, lacrimal, orbit, pediatric, reconstructive, and aesthetic oculoplastic surgery. Additionally, Stanford oculoplastic surgeons participate in multiple multidisciplinary teams including: the Stanford Skull Base Team, the Multidisciplinary thyroid eye disease clinic, the Facial Nerve Palsy Clinic, and the Orbital and Ocular Oncology Center. Stanford Oculofacial surgeons collaborate within the world-class Stanford University Health Care System. Retinal Ganglion Cells and Optic Neuropathies

Faculty Mentor: Y. Joyce Liao, MD, PhD

This position includes performing animal studies on retinal ganglion cells and optic neuropathies, especially on the impact of loss of oxygen on the retina and optic nerve. The goals of these studies are to better understand the factors that contribute to irreversible loss of neurons and vision and to identify effective treatment options, including neuroprotection, stem cell therapy, and other approaches.
Those with expertise on techniques such as eye and brain histology, PCR, Western blot, electrophysiology, as well as optical coherence tomography and other in vivo imaging techniques are encouraged to apply. Those with interest in diabetes or stroke are encouraged to apply.
