Dr. Tawna Roberts selected as co-vice chair for pediatric vision research group

Tawna Roberts, OD, PhD

The Byers Eye Institute at Stanford University is proud to congratulate Tawna Roberts, OD, PhD, assistant professor of ophthalmology (pediatric), for being selected as a co-vice chair for the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG).

PEDIG serves as a collaborative network for clinical research focused on strabismus, amblyopia, and other common eye disorders found in children. PEDIG began in 1997 through funding provided by the National Institutes of Health’s National Eye Institute and is comprised of more than 100 clinical sites and over 300 pediatric ophthalmologists and optometrists spanning the United States and Canada.

“I feel honored to serve PEDIG in this role.” Roberts said. “PEDIG is a rare clinical research network where pediatric eye specialists in both optometry and ophthalmology come together with the common goal of improving vision care for children by conducting rigorous randomized clinical trials. It’s an honor to be a part of such an incredible network.”

In her role as PEDIG co-vice chair, Roberts will serve on the Operations and Executive committees where she will work closely with the Network Chairs and the Coordinating Center to oversee network performance.

In addition to her work with PEDIG, Roberts directs a research program that is funded by grants from the National Eye Institute to study vision development in infants and young children as well as binocular vision disorders in adolescents with concussion.

“Essentially, we want to understand how binocular vision develops and what happens to the visual system when it breaks,” Roberts said.

Roberts began her term as co-Vice Chair at the start of the new year. To learn more about PEDIG, visit here
