Residency Application Process
Five first year residents enter the clinical residency program each June, including 1-2 SOAR residents in the SOAR program. Appointments to the residency program are made one and one-half years in advance through the Ophthalmology Matching Program.
Requirements
Applicants must fulfill the eligibility and certification qualifications outlined by the ACGME, the American Board of Ophthalmology, the Medical Board of California, and the Stanford University School of Medicine.
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements to be eligible for the residency program:
- Graduate of a U.S. or Canadian medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME), or the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools, as applicable. https://lcme.org/directory/accredited-u-s-programs/

- Graduate of an international medical school, which has been evaluated by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Applications
Only applications submitted through SF Match, Ophthalmology Matching Program will be accepted.
Deadline for applications is Sept. 2, 2025.
Interviews will be held virtually on Zoom on:
- Dec. 1, 2025
- Dec. 15, 2025
- Dec. 16, 2025
