Rotation Guide & Goals
Electives outside of Stanford (including domestic rotations outside of Stanford's clinical site partners, International Electives and Away Rotations associated with the Global Health Scholarly Concentration) require a separate approval process and additional time and planning. Residents interested in this should begin planning at least 6 months prior to departure to ensure they have completed the paperwork required to travel.
For all away electives (International & Domestic):
- Cases/clinical experience from the rotation must count for board certification
- Faculty supervision must equal the level of supervision on other rotations
Please submit all paperwork to the residency office, who will submit to the program director and GME on your behalf. The following individuals must approve your away rotation 60 days prior to the start of the rotation.
- Pediatric Chief Residents
- Program Director
- GME Office
Continuation of salary and benefits during away rotations is subject to the approval of the Stanford Program Director and Ann Dohn, Stanford Designated Institutional Official (DIO).
For all rotations that involve clinical duties, you must obtain malpractice coverage from the institution sponsoring the elective.
Requests for an Away Elective are subject to an approval process. You MUST complete the proposal forms after your elective schedule is finalized (you will receive an email with all associated links). Revisions may be made to your proposal later, these must be formally approved at least 60 days PRIOR to the start of your rotation. Timely submission of your proposal is REQUIRED in order to receive credit/pay and approval for the elective.
