From October 16-17th, co-director of Policy Participation, Peace Dike, was invited to be a speaker on a panel for the 27th Annual New Perspectives in Pediatric Liver Transplantation in Montreal, Canada. Read about her presentation below:

Topic: Improving access to pediatric liver transplantation

Specific lecture: (a) emphasizing the role of structural racism in the apparent racial and ethnic health care disparities in pediatric liver transplantation - highlighting notable disparities in pre-transplant outcomes in Black and Hispanic children, (b) share my current grant-funded research aimed at targeting the structural racism in our pre-transplant process to achieve equitable outcomes for all children awaiting liver transplantation by:

  • transparency in our institutional pre-transplant process through developing a live health equity dashboard,

  • determining psychosocial barriers in the pre-transplant process - and partnering with the patient/patient families and community-engaged partners to develop standardized screening tools and targeted interventions.

It was great to welcome back Congresswoman Kim Schrier, MD to Stanford, the first pediatrician in Congress. The OCHE was honored to host a discussion with the Congresswoman after her inspiring grand rounds presentation.
