Rotation Guide & Goals
2-4 weeks *All rotators must contact rotation director at least 2 weeks prior to rotation*
Positions per block: 1
Description: Integrative medicine is healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person, including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship between practitioner and patient, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapies. Residents will have the opportunity to rotate through various integrative medicine clinics within LPCH in Peds Pain, GI, Pulm, Rheumatology, and adolescent medicine. Shadowing opportunities exist for offsite clinics in traditional chinese medicine, private practice integrative pediatrics and homeopathy. Goals will be to familiarize residents with integrative and alternative therapies such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, supplements, the anti-inflammatory diet and mind body medicine (clinical hypnosis, biofeedback, guided imagery). This elective is intended to be hands-on and a supplement to the online PIMR curriculum. Depending on individual resident interest, there will be mini-workshops on acupuncture/ acupressure, medicinal teas, aromatherapy with essential oils, infant massage, and a WHOLE FOODS field trip for case-based workshop on supplements and herbs.
