Rotation Guide & Goals

Respiratory symptoms and problems are the most common cause of children’s families seeking physician encounters, and the #1 cause of school absenteeism, hospital admission and impairment of normal play and sports.

For all of these reasons, it is essential that residents in both primary are and subspecialty care become familiar with recognition, diagnosis and care of respiratory diseases.

The elective can be individualized based on residents career interests, and may include:

1. Outpatient clinic experience with dedicated clinics for: Cystic Fibrosis, Sleep/OSA, Neuromuscular Disease, BPD, Asthma, Aero-Digestive Clinic (w/ENT) & Heart-Lung Transplant

2. Pulmonary function testing & advanced pulmonary diagnostics

3. Interventional techniques - including bronchoscopy  and transbronchial biopsy

4. Inpatient Consultations - can be directed to ICU, subspecialty, or general pulmonary consultations

5. Airway clearance evaluation and management

6. Management of home oxygen and mechanical ventilation
