Rotation Guide & Goals
Our interdisciplinary pediatric palliative care team is a consultation service comprised of physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, and psychologists. We who work closely with spiritual care providers, child life, music and art therapy, integrative medicine and case management to identify and treat suffering in children with serious illnesses, their families, and the teams that care for them. Residents may spend 2- or 4-week rotations with our team.
Our pediatric palliative care elective is structured to meet your individualized education goals for the elective. Generally, we will cover compassionate communication, goals of care delineation, advance care planning, and serious illness symptom management. On this rotation, you will spend time rounding with our interdisciplinary palliative care team in providing consultations and follow up visits, participating in interdisciplinary care team meetings, visiting George Mark Children’s House (San Leandro) and completing self-directed learning through reading, discussion, and self-reflection.
