Rotation Guide & Goals
The aim of this rotation is to give residents a glimpse into the multifaceted role of hospitalists in a co-management setting, namely as a consultant to multiple surgical services in the inpatient setting (ortho, neurosurgery and some general surgery patients). Residents will learn the patient care and business aspects of a successful surgical co-management relationship, routine post-operative care including pain control, evidence-based bowel regimens, and fluid management, as well be a part of the inpatient CONNECT team (complex care). Residents will admit and co-follow complex post-surgical patients, perform as-needed consults when medical questions arise on other surgical services, and become an essential part of a multi-disciplinary team, including NPs, PAs, PT/OT, surgeons, and the pain team.
