Resident Research

Fellowship in Anesthesia Research & Medicine (FARM)

For residents interested in a more intensive research experience with the goal of practicing as a physician-scientist, the FARM program offers up to 9 months of research during residency followed by a 1-2 year research fellowship. See the FARM page for further information.

Resident Research Rotation

All Stanford Anesthesiology residents are encouraged to spend 1-3 months of time pursuing research projects with a faculty mentor. These months take place in CA2 and/or CA3 and require the submission of a proposal usually due in March of the prior academic year. Residents who obtain research time are required to submit an abstract to the Western Anesthesia Residents Conference (WARC) as well as the Annual Departmental Research Dinner. For further information on the rotation, please email the rotation director Dr. Vivianne Tawfik.

Western Anesthesia Residents Conference

WARC is a premier opportunity for residents, students, and fellows to present work they have accomplished during their training. Each year the meeting rotates to a different sponsoring institution in the western United States and Canada. In order to allow as many residents and fellows to attend the meeting as possible, WARC does not charge any registration fee. The meeting is funded from contributions from each participating anesthesia department and from industry contributions. Stanford has hosted WARC in years past, and we regularly have residents present their work at this conference.

The 2024 Annual Western Anesthesia Resident's Conference (WARC) meeting will be hosted by UC Irvine on May 3-5, 2024.
