Life as an Anesthesiology Fellow
Housing
The best way to begin searching for housing from afar is to look online. All fellows can check the classifieds on websites or in local newspapers for rental listings (see below). The Stanford University Community Housing Services offers an online service that allows incoming fellows and postdocs to view locally listed housing. You can also contact your fellowship coordinator in the department to see if they can provide additional information and resources.
Appointed by Stanford University’s Office of Postdoctoral Affairs? Housing information can be found on the OPA’s housing website.
Appointed by Stanford Health Care’s Graduate Medical Education Office? Housing information can be found on GME’s housing website.
Out of State and Out of Country Fellows
The Department of Anesthesia welcomes out‐of‐state and out‐of‐country scholars; however, we do not provide advice or support for becoming legally able to practice medicine in the state of California. With that said, applicants for both the clinical fellowships and postdoctoral fellowship positions should have a current California medical license (or immediate plans to obtain one) prior to beginning their fellowship. The post‐residency fellowship programs do not sponsor H1B Visas.
The ACGME clinical fellowship programs use the J1 visa program only to eligible recipients. Canadians that have passed the Canadian board exams can be accepted without having taken the USMLE exams. Please visit the following web sites for information:
Orientations
There will be mandatory orientations and administrative tasks you must complete upon arrival to the Anesthesiology department and before your start date. It is recommended you a week prior to your start date to be available for your required orientations. You will receive an email with more details a few months prior to your start date.
Transportation
Whether you are planning on using your own vehicle, bike, or public transportation, you will need to contact our Transportation Department. If you drive, a parking permit is required. If you bike, carpool or use public transportation, you may qualify for discounted parking/shopping rates or other offers.
Contact
Please do not hesitate to contact the Fellowship Programs Manager, Bernadett Mahanay if you have questions or concerns.
