The Stanford Medicine LEAD Program is a 10-month longitudinal leadership program for residents and fellows across GME to develop leadership and scholarship skills in addressing issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Mentors will work with a small group of residents and fellows to develop a workshop on a DEI topic of their choice and help to advance the program’s goal of producing leaders in academic medicine dedicated to DEI and improving the culture of medicine. While previous training in DEI is welcomed, it is not a prerequisite.

Program Length and Participation Requirements:

The program consists of 3-hour monthly sessions:  

• 1-hour mentor only session (5:00 PM - 6:00 PM)  
• 1-hour large group session (6:00 PM - 7:00 PM)
• 1-hour small group session (7:00 PM - 8:00 PM)  

The expectation is that participants will attend a minimum of 8 of the 10 sessions.

The Anesthesiology Diversity Council (ADC) was formed in 2015 to bring together faculty, trainees, and staff throughout the department. The goal of the ADC meeting is to create a functional unit that will identify and cultivate the skills necessary to foster diversity, provide mentorship, create scholarly and leadership opportunities, and prepare faculty, staff, residents, and fellows to address the health needs of a diverse population.

Program Length and Participation Requirements:

The meeting takes place on the second Tuesday of each month from 7-8pm.

The Health Equity Anesthesiology Leadership (HEAL) Pathway was developed by faculty, residents, and staff to address the need to graduate residents prepared to lead diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Stanford Anesthesiology Department Residents interested in becoming a health equity leader are mentored and taught how to take a vision to implementation, manage projects, delegate, conduct meetings, and create scholarly work from diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within an academic center. The experience is tailored to the individual's background and goals but is intended to provide residents with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to become a health equity leader.

The program consists of five meetings over the course of two months.

The SCORE program brings fourth-year medical students from diverse backgrounds to Stanford for a four-week residential clinical training program in Anesthesia. SCORE students are matched with faculty and resident mentors who share similar clinical interests.
