In this half-day experiential workshop, participants practice the communication and relational skills necessary for effectively supporting colleagues and trainees who have experienced critical events. 

Program Length: 4-hour experiential training. Peer supporters are generally paired with 1 contact every 1-2 months.

PRIME promotes resident well-being, advocacy, peer connections, and professional development in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine.

Program Length: PRIME faculty training is 4-6 hours. PRIME faculty start with a CA-1 class and continue with that class through graduation. Each class has 5-6 PRIME sessions per year.

An experiential program in which the participants learn the techniques of mindfulness meditation and its application in the management of stress and in healthcare. Modeled after the MBSR, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, started by Jon Kabat-Zinn at UMASS Medical Center. Designed to work with the mind/body relationship to stress and chronic illness teaching open sensitive awareness without judgement of mental or physical reactivity.

Program Length: Requirement for the course is the daily practice of mindfulness meditation, attendance at weekly class meetings and the all day retreat, home reading, and a final paper covering the student's observations.

The goal of our ACES program is to promote a relationship-centered culture through the strengthening of clinicians’ communication skills with patients, families, and colleagues. We achieve this goal by holding ACES, a one-day course taught by faculty that are trained by the Academy of Communication in Healthcare (ACH). The evidence-based curriculum focuses on mastering effective and empathic communication skills, with the twofold goal of improving the patient and family experience, while enhancing professional satisfaction.
