We are delighted to announce that Dr. James McAvoy has been appointed as the new Director of Critical Care Ultrasonography.

Dr. McAvoy serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Division of Anesthesia Critical Care Medicine. He is an alumnus of the University of Vermont College of Medicine, completed his anesthesiology residency at Stanford Healthcare, and is a product of our multidisciplinary critical care fellowship, class of 2020. In his new role, Dr. McAvoy will be instrumental in designing, developing, and overseeing the implementation of an innovative and comprehensive CCUS curriculum tailored for our advanced trainees in the Critical Care Medicine (CCM) fellowship. Our fellowship program, which annually prepares 32 fellows from diverse backgrounds including Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine and its subspecialties, Emergency Medicine, and Neurology, will greatly benefit from his expertise and leadership.

Dr. McAvoy succeeds Dr. Jai Madhok, to whom we extend our gratitude for his exemplary service in this role. James will collaborate with the existing Co-Directors, Dr. Gerber from Medicine and Dr. Htet from Emergency Medicine, to further the excellence of our critical care ultrasound program.
