    DE&I Fair 2022

A wide range of topics were discussed at the Stanford Pathology DE&I Fair held on October 26, 2022. Topics ranged from Women in Science and Pathology, Peer Support, Disabilities support, and Global Health...

"This summer really opened up my eyes to research.  Prior to this experience I hadn't had any exposure to research, so it really made me consider research in my future career... I'm really grateful for this experience because it broadened my horizons and I feel like I got a much more in-depth introduction to pathology which prior to this experience, I really didn't know much about."

"Me personally, it's held me accountable to engaging and re-engaging with these topics on a regular basis, and over time, I think/hope has helped me better recognize systemic racism in all its myriad and sneaky presentations, including my own biases. This book club helped inspire me to do one of my CP long talks on a related topic, and has also informed/motivated my contributions to other DEI efforts in the department such as our orientation and open house earlier this year."

"Our scientific institutions have systematically invested in research that primarily centers and benefits men of European descent. I aim to contribute to a more equitable understanding of our diverse global population, and to work towards including and promoting communities traditionally excluded. The creation of this award is a step towards a more equitable research agenda by emphasizing value of health disparity research. I hope this award will emphasize the importance of funding for health disparity research, as well as the need to hire individuals from diverse backgrounds to enable people to co-create research agendas with their own communities."
