Computational Services and Bioinformatics Facility

SU-wide high performance computing managed by Stanford Research Computing Center. Accounts are free. There are 127 shared servers available to all researchers, including 1.5TB RAM "bigmem" and GPU nodes. Also, there are more than 600 additional servers available to Sherlock owners, faculty who have augmented the cluster with their own purchases. Note: that Sherlock is approved for computing with low risk data, not moderate or high. Software needs to be installed by research group.

Farm Share

FarmShare is one of the Stanford shared research computing environments. It comprises the "cardinal", "corn", and "barley" machines. Note that the Corn and Barley systems are largely intended for the use of students for course assignments and small-scale thesis work, and for new researchers as a place for proof-of-concept runs and work until external funding is obtained for infrastructure or services to support more demanding work. Note that this system is notHIPAA compliant and should not be used to process any PHI nor PII; it is only acceptable for low risk data per Stanford's data classification scheme.

Sherlock Cluster

The CSBF provides a variety of Macintosh, Windows and Linux software for scientific research and general administrative use. The CSBF obtains concurrent network licenses that work under the control of a software license manager. This allows the facility to purchase a limited number of copies of expensive software but distribute the software widely within the Stanford network thus providing a substantial savings to the individual researcher.

Stanford Center for Genomics and Personalized Medicine

Large computational cluster: ~700 users. Currently 2800+ cores and 7+ Petabytes of high performance storage. Has over 500+ bioinformatics software packages installed. Expanding to use SGI-based supercomputer nodes. Visit web site for SGI-based details.

SCG is dbGaP-compliant and supports SU mandated security requirements. Long-term storage is also accessible through the Google Cloud. SCGPM provides Bioinformatics-as-a-Service (BaaS) which is charged hourly.
