Platform-Specific Data Removal Instructions
For Researchers Leaving Stanford
If a faculty member, resident, or postdoctoral fellow is leaving Stanford for a position in another institution and wants to take their research projects and data to their new institution, they must follow the University's research policies. If ongoing access will be needed to the research data, a data use agreement should be put in place between Stanford and the new institution.
If a Principal Investigator is leaving, the project may be moved to another institution with the approval of the Vice Provost and Dean of Research. Additionally, the new institution must agree to accept custodial responsibilities for the data, and for Stanford's access to the data if it becomes necessary.
Other researchers leaving Stanford may take copies of the research data for projects on which they have worked. Original data must be retained by Stanford. For questions on this, work with your department and PI to ensure it is being done appropriately.
