Health Equity Hubs

The Health Equity Hubs unify the Stanford Department of Pediatrics into a force for equity and justice action for children and families who are most at risk for adverse health and social outcomes.

Health Equity Hubs

To address health inequities that require collaboration across divisions and departments, the OCHE launched Health Equity Hubs in 2025. The Hubs provide a structure for faculty and staff to collectively address topics that emerged out of the Health Equity Alliance (2023-2025).

Food Insecurity and Nutrition Hub

The Hub will address food insecurity and hunger by connecting caregivers and families with essential food resources in both inpatient and outpatient settings. By partnering with organizations like Second Harvest Food Bank and Ronald McDonald House Charities, we will equip healthcare providers with the tools to identify food insecurity and facilitate access to community support.

Health and Education Access Hub

The Hub addresses health and educational disparities encountered by children with special health care needs whose families encounter barriers with school re-entry or access to necessary resources and support. It will partner with Parents Helping Parents, a nonprofit parent training and information center.

Pre-Hospital Care Hub

The Hub addresses issues of pre-hospital care for children with medical complexity, how pediatric providers can support caregivers interface with EMS and improve EMS readiness to care for children with medical complexity across the state of California. It will foster partnerships with local and state Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and other critical stakeholders.

Transplant Equity Hub

This Hub aims to identify and address the root causes of inequities faced by transplant candidates and their families. Its goal is to eliminate health disparities throughout the transplant process, ensuring that every child who needs a transplant has equitable access to high-quality care and the necessary resources for lifelong health and well-being.

Health Equity Alliance

From 2023-2025, 110 Health Equity Champions from eight divisions within the Department of Pediatrics were trained in community-engagement, strategic policy participation, and policy-relevant research.

Champions implemented projects to address priority health issues such as food insecurity, access to neurodevelopmental training, early literacy, transplant equity, and more. The Health Equity Champions continue to meet monthly at a Health Equity Alliance Integrated Meeting.
