Little Libraries

In collaboration with the Stanford Pediatric Advocacy Program and pediatric providers from the mid-peninsula including: Mayview Health Center, Gardner/Packard Clinic, San Mateo Health Center, Fair Oaks Health Center, and Ravenswood Family Health Center are set to promote literacy in low-income communities. Little Librarities were placed in clinic waiting areas to encourage children to read and bring home books for free.

How can you help?

  • We are recruiting a committed group of undergraduate students who will help sort and deliver books to clinics, donate lightly used books and organize a book drive.

Diaper Insecurity

Diaper insecurity and social determinants of health

We are piloting sustainable model for selling diapers to families (at cost) at a Federally Qualified Health Center. The majority of children are enrolled in Medicaid and face challenges making ends meet. Providers at Gardner Packard conducted a needs assessment that determined that clinic families spend more on diapers (at stores such as Safeway, Walgreens, etc.) compared to families that are able to purchase diapers in bulk (at stores such as Costco, Amazon, etc.). This social innovation project will involve establishing a business model and system for selling diapers in clinic. The project will also involve collection of process and outcomes data. http://med.stanford.edu/pedsadvocacy/news/diapers.html
