Little Libraries

In collaboration with the Stanford Pediatric Advocacy Program and pediatric providers from the mid-peninsula including: Mayview Health Center, Gardner/Packard Clinic, San Mateo Health Center, Fair Oaks Health Center, and Ravenswood Family Health Center are set to promote literacy in low-income communities. Little Libraries were placed in clinic waiting areas to encourage children to read and bring home books for free.

How can you help? 

  • We are recruiting a committed group of undergraduate students who will help sort and deliver books to clinics, donate lightly used books, and organize a book drive. If interested, please email us at OfficeOfChildHealthEquity@stanford.edu.

Student Internship in Policy

Student Internship with the Office of Child Health Equity's Policy Engagement Arm

The Office of Child Health Equity (OCHE) Policy Engagement arm at Stanford provides a coherent structure to address the root of health inequities by way of partnerhips with Lucile Packard Children's Hospital (LPCH), including Government Relations, the Stanford University School of Medicine (SOM), community organizations, and legislators. The team works to bridge physicians and partners at LPCH with state and federal legislators to support, inform, or advance policy initiatives to aim to mitigate health disparities and inequities for children. 

How can you help?

  1. Track state and federal bills
  2. Work with LPCH Government Relations to learn ohw to best impact current legislation 
  3. Write concise policy briefs, one-pagers, and letters to legislators and staffers 
  4. Create infographics, educational videos and other community and legislator facing visuals to support and inform on health equity efforts
  5. Work directly with Health Equity Champions (including physicians, surgeons, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, scientiests, and staff in Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics, and more) at LPCH        
  6. Serve as a representative of the OCHE team with many policy partners and programs in the surrounding Stanford area 
  7. Meet weekly with leadership of the Policy Arm to check-in on projects and set goals for the coming week.
