Choosing Stanford means standing beside, as a peer, amidst our students, residents, fellows, instructors, and faculty, allowing for close collaboration and outreach within all our TOP TEN ranking departments. Our medical students, residents, fellows, and clinical instructors engage and strategize together in interdisciplinary meetings, rounds, and conferences on daily and weekly meetings and projects. The trainees have the opportunity to dissect, discuss and create patient care plans and map out surgical cases with our surgeons and faculty. Our trainees are pulled into our service quickly, educated and engaged in our patient care models, and supported to learn how to lead in the care of our complex patients. They are deeply integrated into our teaching and training with a team approach to all aspects of patient care, from clinic to the surgical operating room, to ICU, step-down care, and discharge. Stanford Heart Surgery is ranked #8, leading the way as "Highest-ranked in all of Stanford Healthcare." Our department is at the forefront of research and collaboration and leads the way as the most academic department.

Our Stanford University and Stanford Healthcare cardiothoracic surgery and cardiology departments work hand in hand on general patient care, such as managing patients' comorbidities and medications, to complex cases, such as listing a heart failure patient for transplant or a ventricular assist device. We have several weekly multidisciplinary meetings to discuss and learn from each other on complex patient care plans and care.

We work fearlessly with our engineering and biomedical departments on projects, research, patient collaboration, and training. We have several students and residents who have completed Ph.D. programs within our Cardiothoracic Surgery and collaborating departments while simultaneously completing graduate school or residency.

Joining Stanford means deep connections to endless networks, researchers, and collaboration with countless teams. Stanford takes pride in highlighting some of the many ways that our faculty and surgeons integrate with other groups and are proud to have many of these teams stand in the TOP 10 with our Cardiothoracic Surgery department!
