Mid/Early-career Advancement Program (MAP)

  • Affiliation: Anesthesiology
  • Details: The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine established the Mid/Early-career Advancement Program (MAP) as an accelerator for Anesthesiology faculty seeking to promote their professions through the intentional development of skills and attributes that are known to contribute to career growth and leadership skills. Participants will engage in a series of educational sessions that utilize typical andragogic learning theories, including self-directed, experiential, and asynchronous sessions. Throughout the year, the MAP cohort will rely on short- and long-term goals that will ultimately guide mid- and early career- anesthesiologists towards a meaningful, sustainable profession.

The goals of the MAP include maturation of personality attributes that promote professionalism along with extrinsic goals that aim to increase recognition and impact. Personal goals include developing conflict resolution skills, enhancement of leadership attributes, introduction to coaching, and improvement of organizational skills. Extrinsic goals seek to expand participants’ professional leadership network within Stanford University and nationally, strengthen mentor relationships with senior faculty, and develop their network of early career mentees.
