Coaching

Stanford School of Medicine and Stanford University have a wide variety of faculty training opportunities. The Office of Faculty Development and Engagement (OFDE) and the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) created a centralized faculty training website with go-to resources for your professional development.

If you have questions, please contact OFDE and/or OAA.

Resources are organized in the thirteen categories below. Under each category are Stanford organizations highlighting the type of program, intended audiences, sponsoring unit, how to join, duration/logistics, details, and the website links/contact information.

  • 1:1 Development Coaching powered by CoachHub

Elevate your professional growth and development with 1:1 Development Coaching powered by CoachHub. You get three months of unlimited, personalized virtual coaching to address your unique professional development and/or career enrichment goals. Open to Clinician Educators and all staff.

  • Executive Coaching through OAA

We encourage our faculty to engage with professional coaches early to assist faculty rather than when serious issues have developed. Open to Stanford Medicine faculty of all ranks and lines.

  • New Beginnings Retirement Coaching

Traditional retirement planning typically focuses on financial issues but does not address the social and emotional aspects of retirement. New Beginnings Retirement Coaching, led by our very own School of Medicine faculty, now provides this type of support and guidance for any School of Medicine faculty member considering retirement. Open to any faculty member.

  • Starting Up Your Research Group SURGE II

This course entails didactic as well as hands-on workshops, in addition to individual leadership assessment and coaching from a certified internal coach. Open to newly appointed assistant professors with research labs.

External Coaching Referrals

The Office of Academic Affairs maintains an ongoing database of external professional coaches who are certified and have worked with Stanford faculty and with clients at other medical schools.  Faculty who would like to inquire about these resources may contact Rania Sanford, EdD, PCC, raniasanford@stanford.edu, to discuss the coaching needs.
