Stanford School of Medicine and Stanford University have a wide variety of faculty training opportunities. The Office of Faculty Development and Diversity (OFDD) and the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) created a centralized faculty training website with go-to resources for your professional development.

Resources are organized in the twelve categories below. Under each category are Stanford organizations highlighting the type of program, intended audiences, sponsoring unit, how to join, duration/logistics, details, and the website links/contact information.
 

Programs listed in alphabetical order below:

  • Leadership Bootcamp for Junior Faculty

    The bootcamp develops unique leadership styles and applies strengths within professional pursuits through interactive leadership development training. Open to assistant professors across all lines in the first four years of assistant professor appointment.

  • Leading Team Science Teams

    Provides guidance on the characteristics, processes, and dynamics that contribute to a multidisciplinary team’s success while engaging researchers to learn more about how team science should be initiated, conducted, and evaluated. Open to faculty of all ranks across all lines who conduct Team Science research.

  • Stanford Leadership Development Program (SLDP)

    SLDP develops leaders that implement institutional strategies and meet future challenges in academic medicine. Open to late assistant professors, associate professors, and full professors across all lines.

  • Stanford Medicine Leadership Academy (SMLA)

    SMLA strengthens the capacity of faculty to shape the future of Stanford Medicine through involvement in effective change projects, coaching, and networking. Open to associate and full professors across all lines.

  • Stanford Physician Leadership Certificate Program

    The online program provides participants with an evidence-based framework for personal growth, key management and leadership skills, and deep connection with peers. The program utilizes cases and simulations, plus peer and professional coaching that provides holistic support for the participants to understand, practice, and cultivate effective interpersonal, management, and leadership skills. Participants complete several psychometric tools that shed light on personal competencies and facilitate each participant’s leadership development plan. Open to early to mid-career clinical faculty across all lines, within Stanford and elsewhere.

  • Starting Up Your Research Group SURGE I

    A course for beginner Principal Investigators who are new to Stanford and are in their first term of appointment, who lead research group in basic or clinical departments. Open to newly appointed assistant professors with research labs.

  • Starting Up Your Research Group SURGE II

    This course entails didactic as well as hands-on workshops, in addition to individual leadership assessment and coaching from a certified internal coach. Open to newly appointed assistant professors with research labs.

  • Starting Up Your Research Group SURGE-Clinical

    A course for beginner Clinical Investigators who are new to Stanford and will be/are leading clinical research programs. Open to newly appointed assistant professors with clinical research/clinical trials.

  • Office of Faculty Development and Diversity Skills-Builders

    OFDD Skills-Builders focus on developing leadership skills and strategies and faculty. Seminar topics include Effective Presentations, Negotiations, and more. Open to faculty of all ranks across all lines.

  • On-Demand Series

    Provides individualized mentorship, team-building, bias, and inclusion seminars to departments and groups across Stanford Medicine (e.g., Leading Inclusive Teams). Open to faculty of all ranks across all lines.
