In June of 2020, leaders and advocates of diversity and inclusion at Stanford Medicine and beyond came together to create the inaugural Stanford Medicine Commission on Justice and Equity (“Commission”), representing an unprecedented effort to collectively dismantle systemic racism and discrimination at Stanford Medicine and in society at large. The Commission was formed with a two-fold charge: first, to strengthen Stanford Medicine’s diversity, equity, and inclusion practices to become a model for other institutions; and second, to bolster efforts as an academic medical center to confront racism as an urgent public health crisis.
This document outlines the Commission's key findings and recommended actions that our institution—including leadership—can take to advance a culture of inclusion and representation at Stanford Medicine and play an active role in dismantling racism and discrimination in all its forms.
