  • The Insulin-Only Bionic Pancreas Pivotal Trial

    This multi-center randomized control trial (RCT) will compare efficacy and safety endpoints using the insulin-only configuration of the iLet Bionic Pancreas (BP) System versus Usual Care (UC) during a 13-week study period. Participants may be enrolled initially into a screening protocol and then transfer into the RCT protocol, or they may enter directly into the RCT protocol. The RCT will be followed by an Extension Phase in which the RCT Usual Care (UC) Group will use the insulin-only configuration of the iLet Bionic Pancreas (BP) System for 3 months. At the completion of use of the BP system in the RCT only, participants will enter a 2-4 day Transition Phase and be randomly assigned to either transition back to their usual mode of therapy (MDI or pump therapy) based on therapeutic guidance from the iLet BP System or transition back to their usual mode of therapy based on what their own insulin regimens were prior to enrolling in the RCT.

    There is an optional ancillary study to assess the safety of utilizing self-monitored blood glucose (SMBG) measurements instead of continuous glucose monitor (CGM) measurements as input into the iLet for ~48-60 hours. The Study is intended to mirror a real-world situation where CGM may not be available for an extended period of time (eg, user runs out of sensors and is awaiting new shipment).

  • Stanford Center for Back Pain

    The purpose of the Stanford Center for Back Pain is to investigate and characterize the mechanisms of four treatments for chronic low back pain. These interventions (research treatment) include real-time fMRI neurofeedback, mindfulness based stress reduction, cognitive behavioral therapy, and acupuncture treatment. The investigators plan to characterize both mechanisms of treatment effects and efficacy.

  • Recovery of Ventilation After Anesthesia for Laparoscopic Nephrectomy

    The purpose of this randomized, controlled feasibility investigation is to characterize pharmacologically induced ventilatory depression after anesthesia and examine how is affected by the amount of supplemental oxygen patients are receiving in the immediate postoperative period.

  • Vitamin A Supplementation for Extremely-Low-Birth-Weight Infants

    This multi-site, randomized trial was conducted to determine the safety and effectiveness of a higher dose of vitamin A and determine if this would increase the rate of survival without bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and reduce the risk of sepsis. Infants with birth weights from 401-1000g and who were on mechanical ventilation or supplemental oxygen at 24-96 hours of age were enrolled. Subjects were randomized to either the Vitamin A or a control group. Infants in the Vitamin A group were given a dose of 5000 IU (0.1 ml) intramuscularly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for four weeks. Control infants received a sham procedure rather than placebo injections.

    The primary objective of the study is to compare the effect of 90-day treatment with ticagrelor (180 mg [two 90 mg tablets] loading dose on Day 1 followed by 90 mg twice daily maintenance dose for the remainder of the study) vs acetylsalicylic acid (ASA)-aspirin (300 mg [three 100 mg tablets] loading dose on Day 1 followed by 100 mg once daily maintenance dose for the remainder of the study) for the prevention of major vascular events (composite of stroke, myocardial infarction [MI], and death) in patients with acute ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA).

  • Veliparib in Treating Patients With Persistent or Recurrent Epithelial Ovarian, Fallopian Tube, or Primary Peritoneal Cancer

    This phase II trial studies how well veliparib works in treating patients with epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer that has come back or does not respond to treatment. Veliparib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth.

  • Stanford Spine Keeper - Managing Your Low Back Pain

    Mobile health applications (mHealth apps) are transforming medical research and intervention by allowing constant, instantaneous and personalized access to patients. The investigators have designed a mHealth app (Stanford SpineKeeper) utilizing the Apple ResearchKit and HealthKit platform, which is an open source software framework designed Apple Inc to be used by medical researchers to use for research purposes. The investigators will assess whether a multidisciplinary intervention delivered through the application can help improve quality of life and minimize symptoms in patients with chronic low back pain.

  • Vorinostat, Temozolomide, or Bevacizumab in Combination With Radiation Therapy Followed by Bevacizumab and Temozolomide in Young Patients With Newly Diagnosed High-Grade Glioma

    This randomized phase II/III trial is studying vorinostat, temozolomide, or bevacizumab to see how well they work compared with each other when given together with radiation therapy followed by bevacizumab and temozolomide in treating young patients with newly diagnosed high-grade glioma. Vorinostat may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as temozolomide, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. It is not yet known whether giving vorinostat is more effective then temozolomide or bevacizumab when given together with radiation therapy in treating glioma.

  • VISN Collaborative for Improving Hypertension Management With ATHENA-HTN

    This project is a VA HSR&D-funded Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) project to translate into practice evidence about clinical management of primary hypertension. The project aims to contribute to quality improvement of care for patients with primary hypertension. The project implemented a clinical decision support (CDS) system for primary care clinicians and evaluated the implementation by studying the following: impact on the clinicians' prescribing and their patients' blood pressures; the clinician satisfaction with the CDS; and organizational factors in the implementation.

  • The Anchor Study: Digitally Delivered Intervention for Reducing Problematic Substance Use

    This study aims to validate W-SUDs as a digitally-delivered substance use disorder program through a fully-powered randomized control trial that will test the comparative efficacy of the mobile-app based substance use disorder program (W-SUDs) to reduce substance use relative to a psychoeducation control condition, which has no cognitive behavioral therapy and the content is not delivered through a conversational user interface.

  • Study of IPH4102 in Patients With Relapsed/Refractory Cutaneous T-cell Lymphomas (CTCL)

  • Trying to Find the Correct Length of Treatment With Immune Checkpoint Therapy

    This phase III trial compares survival in urothelial cancer patients who stop immune checkpoint inhibitor treatment after being treated for about a year to those patients who continue treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as avelumab, durvalumab, pembrolizumab, atezolizumab, and nivolumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Stopping immune checkpoint inhibitors early may still make the tumor shrink and patients may have similar survival rates as the patients who continue treatment. Stopping treatment early may also lead to fewer treatment-related side effects, an improvement in mental health, and a lower cost burden to patients.
