  • Day of Embryo Transfer for Patients Undergoing In Vitro Fertilization

    We are examining whether pregnancy rates differ based on day of embryo transfer in patients who replace all available embryos after an In vitro Fertilization (IVF) cycle. Patients must be undergoing IVF treatment at Stanford University and patients will not receive compensation for their participation (no medical costs covered or patient payment for participation).

  • GoalKeeper: Intelligent Information Sharing for Children With Medical Complexity

    This proposal addresses the major challenge of improving health outcomes for children with cancer and other complex conditions, for whom the effectiveness of outpatient care depends on care coordination across a diverse group of caregivers that includes parents, community support organizations and pediatric care providers. The investigators have developed GoalKeeper, a prototype system for supporting care coordination across multiple care providers. The primary aim of the clinical trial is to assess the potential for this new system, GoalKeeper, to improve meaningful use of goal-centered care plans in the care of children with cancer and other complex chronic conditions.

  • Efficacy of XL184 (Cabozantinib) in Advanced Medullary Thyroid Cancer

    The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the progression-free survival (PFS) with XL184 as compared with placebo (an inactive substance) in subjects with unresectable, locally advanced, or metastatic medullary thyroid cancer (MTC). Subjects will be randomized to receive XL184 or placebo in a 2:1 ratio. XL184 is an investigational drug that inhibits VEGFR2, MET and RET, kinases implicated in tumor formation, growth and migration.

    The Clinical Steering Committee for this study, comprised of study doctors who specialize in medullary thyroid cancer, has provided guidance regarding the design of the study. The committee includes: Douglas Ball, MD, Barry Nelkin, PhD, Martin Schlumberger, MD and Steven Sherman, MD.

  • Natural History Study of Patients With X-linked Retinal Dystrophy Associated With Mutations in Retinitis Pigmentosa GTPase Regulator (RPGR)

    The rod-cone dystrophies (often referred to as retinitis pigmentosa (RP)) are a clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of disorders in which there is progressive loss of rod and later cone photoreceptor function leading to severe visual impairment. RP usually occurs as an isolated retinal disorder, but it may also be seen in association with systemic abnormalities.

  • Novel Approaches for Graft-versus-Host Disease Prevention Compared to Contemporary Controls (BMT CTN 1203)

    Acute Graft-versus-Host-Disease (GVHD) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). This study aims to determine if any of three new GVHD prophylaxis approaches improves the rate of GVHD and relapse free survival at one year after transplant compared to the current standard prophylaxis regimen.

  • Long-Term Follow-Up of Patients Who Have Participated in Children's Oncology Group Studies

    This clinical trial keeps track of and collects follow-up information from patients who are currently enrolled on or have participated in a Children's Oncology Group study. Developing a way to keep track of patients who have participated in Children's Oncology Group studies may allow doctors learn more about the long-term effects of cancer treatment and help them reduce problems related to treatment and improve patient quality of life.

  • Efficacy and Safety Comparison of Niraparib to Placebo in Participants With Human Epidermal Growth Factor 2 Negative (HER2-) Breast Cancer Susceptibility Gene Mutation (BRCAmut) or Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) With Molecular Disease

    This study will assess the efficacy and safety of Niraparib in participants with either tumor mutation in the BRCA gene (tBRCAmut) HER2- breast cancer (Independent of hormone receptor [HR] status, including HR positive [+] and TNBC) or tumor BRCA wild type (tBRCAwt) TNBC with molecular disease based on the presence of circulating tumor Deoxyribonucleic acid (ctDNA) following surgery or completion of adjuvant therapy.

  • Lenalidomide in Treating Patients With Relapsed Mycosis Fungoides/Sezary Syndrome

    RATIONALE: Lenalidomide may stop the growth of mycosis fungoides/Sezary syndrome by blocking blood flow to the cancer.

  • Established Status Epilepticus Treatment Trial

    The primary objective is to determine the most effective and/or the least effective treatment of benzodiazepine-refractory status epilepticus (SE) among patients older than 2 years. There are three active treatment arms being compared: fosphenytoin (FOS),levetiracetam (LEV), and valproic acid (VPA).

    The second objective is comparison of three drugs with respect to secondary outcomes.

    The final objective is to ensure that the trial is informative for treatment of established SE in children by describing the effectiveness, safety, and rate of adverse reactions of these drugs in children.

  • Electrical Stimulation for Continence After Spinal Cord Injury

    This study aims to improve continence and voiding of patients with spinal cord injury using electrical stimulation.

    The Finetech Vocare Bladder System is an implantable sacral nerve stimulator for improving bladder and bowel function in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). It has been commercially available in Britain and other countries since 1982, and has been used in thousands of patients with SCI to improve bladder, bowel and sexual function. It received FDA approval in 1998 under Humanitarian Device Exemption H980005 and H980008 for providing urination on demand and to aid in bowel evacuation.

    Electrical stimulation to produce bladder contraction and improve bladder voiding after spinal cord injury has usually been combined with cutting of sensory nerves to reduce reflex contraction of the bladder, which improves continence. However, cutting these nerves has undesirable side effects. This study will not cut any sensory nerve. This study is testing the use of the stimulator for inhibiting bladder contraction by stimulating sensory nerves to improve continence after spinal cord injury, and for blocking sphincter contraction to improve voiding.

  • Evaluation of a Non-invasive Brain Compliance Measurement Device

    This is a research study to understand how diabetic ketoacidosis may affect the brain and learning and to see if these changes are transient or permanent. The investigators hope to learn more about how diabetic ketoacidosis may cause changes in brain compliance (by wearing a non-invasive head band/helmet like device from Jan Medical: The Nautilus Neurowave System™ (NNS), learning, talking, behavior, or development. The investigators will compare those results from those with diabetes mellitus to those age and gendered matched healthy controls. Possible subjects in this study have diabetes mellitus and are between the ages of 10 to less than 17 years old OR do NOT have diabetes and are between the ages of 10 to less than 17 years old.

    The Stanford Tobacco Prevention Toolkit is a free, online Toolkit that consists of a curriculum, educational resources, and a resource directory to be used by educators, parents, juvenile justice workers, and healthcare providers to increase knowledge and awareness of cannabis and reduce use among youth.   • Prostate Cancer Upgrading Reference Set

    Research repository designed to establish prostate cancer upgrading reference set and development of a risk prediction tool. Repository will include clinical information and biologics on a cohort of 240 men, to predict presence of high grade cancer at time of prostatectomy (removal of prostate) among patients with a low grade cancer diagnosis at time of biopsy.

  • Noninvasive Electrical Stimulator as a Pain Control Treatment Post-ureteroscopy

    The investigators will assess the use of Transcutaneous Neurostimulation (TENS), a pharmacological alternative, for treatment of ureteral stent pain post-ureteroscopy. The primary aim for the investigators is to determine if use of a TENS unit will reduce post-operative pain and nausea associated with the ureteral stent. Secondary aim will be to assess if it can help minimize narcotic use.
