  • Ipilimumab or High-Dose Interferon Alfa-2b in Treating Patients With High-Risk Stage III-IV Melanoma That Has Been Removed by Surgery

    This randomized phase III trial studies ipilimumab to see how well it works compared to high-dose interferon alfa-2b in treating patients with high-risk stage III-IV melanoma that has been removed by surgery. Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as ipilimumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Interferon alfa-2b may interfere with the growth of tumor cells and slow the growth of melanoma and other cancers. It is not yet known whether ipilimumab is more effective than interferon alfa-2b in treating patients with melanoma.

    This is a two-agent, open-label, non-randomized, Phase 1/2 dose escalation and dose expansion study of combinatorial oral vorolanib plus infusional nivolumab in patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer naïve to checkpoint inhibitor therapy, Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer who have progressed on checkpoint inhibitor therapy, Small Cell Lung Cancer ( who have progressed on platinum-based chemotherapy, and thymic carcinoma.

  • Obesity Prevention for Pre-Adolescents

    To develop and evaluate, in a randomized controlled trial, a comprehensive obesity prevention program for third, fourth and fifth grade students.

    The intervention includes activities in THE SCHOOL, THE HOME, and a clinically oriented component for HIGH-RISK CHILDREN. In addition, the intervention will be delivered over a 3 year period, with age and grade-appropriate components for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders and their families. The primary outcome is body mass index.

    PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To significantly reduce body mass index, compared to controls, at the end of the three year intervention.

  • Nivolumab and Ipilimumab in Treating Patients With Esophageal and Gastroesophageal Junction Adenocarcinoma Undergoing Surgery

    This phase II/III trial studies the usefulness of treatment with nivolumab and ipilimumab in addition to standard of care chemotherapy and radiation therapy in patients with esophageal and gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma who are undergoing surgery. Immunotherapy with antibodies, such as nivolumab and ipilimumab, may remove the brake on the body's immune system and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy may reduce the tumor size and the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed during surgery. A combined treatment with nivolumab and ipilimumab, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy might be more effective in patients with esophageal and gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma who are undergoing surgery.

  • Nivolumab in Combination With Chemo-Immunotherapy for the Treatment of Newly Diagnosed Primary Mediastinal B-Cell Lymphoma

    This phase III trial compares the effects of nivolumab with chemo-immunotherapy versus chemo-immunotherapy alone in treating patients with newly diagnosed primary mediastinal B-cell lymphoma (PMBCL). Immunotherapy with monoclonal antibodies, such as nivolumab, may help the body's immune system attack the cancer, and may interfere with the ability of cancer cells to grow and spread. Treatment for PMBCL involves chemotherapy combined with an immunotherapy called rituximab. Chemotherapy drugs work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Rituximab is a monoclonal antibody. It binds to a protein called CD20, which is found on B cells (a type of white blood cell) and some types of cancer cells. This may help the immune system kill cancer cells. Giving nivolumab with chemo-immunotherapy may help treat patients with PMBCL.

  • Predicting Endometrial Receptivity for Optimal Reproductive Management

    The purpose of this study is to understand why some women are infertile (unable to conceive a child). The investigators hope to learn if an endometrial biopsy after egg retrieval is feasible for detecting biomarkers for endometriosis and predicting implantation and pregnancy rate after embryo transfer.

    This study design will provide for the first time, an opportunity to compare endometrial biopsy material from hyperstimulated (gonadotropin treated) subjects after egg retrieval. If successful, it would provide a new protocol for women with unexplained infertility or those with known endometriosis to avoid poor IVF outcomes.

  • Osimertinib With or Without Bevacizumab as Initial Treatment for Patients With EGFR-Mutant Lung Cancer

    This phase III trial compares the effect of bevacizumab and osimertinib combination vs. osimertinib alone for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer that has spread outside of the lungs (stage IIIB-IV) and has a change (mutation) in a gene called EGFR. The EGFR protein is involved in cell signaling pathways that control cell division and survival. Sometimes, mutations in the EGFR gene cause EGFR proteins to be made in higher than normal amounts on some types of cancer cells. This causes cancer cells to divide more rapidly. Osimertinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking EGFR that is needed for cell growth in this type of cancer. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Giving osimertinib with bevacizumab may control cancer for longer and help patients live longer as compared to osimertinib alone.

  • Facilitating Adaptive Expertise in Learning Computed Tomography

    The main objective of this study is to demonstrate that Error Management Training improves adaptive expertise in head computed tomography interpretation. The investigators will conduct a randomized controlled trial comparing two learning strategies, Error Management Training vs Error Avoidance Training, in emergency medicine residents. The investigators hypothesize that Error Management Training, as compared to Error Avoidance Training, will improve adaptive expertise, as measured by skills transfer, when used to teach head computed tomography interpretation to emergency medicine residents.

  • Gastric Acid Suppression and Probiotic Colonization

    Probiotics are over-the-counter dietary products with microorganisms that are generally consumed for health benefit. However, the durability of these microorganisms is unclear, particularly when they pass through the highly acidic environment of the stomach. We will test the colonization of these microorganisms among individuals who consume probiotics with and without acid suppression therapy.

  • Multiple Doses of Neural Stem Cell Virotherapy (NSC-CRAd-S-pk7) for the Treatment of Recurrent High-Grade Gliomas

    This phase I trial studies the effect of multiple doses of NSC-CRAd-S-pk7 in treating patients with high-grade gliomas that have come back (recurrent). NSC-CRAd-S-pk7 consists of neural stem cells that carry a virus, which can kill cancer cells. Giving multiple doses of NSC-CRAd-S-pk7 may kill more tumor cells.

  • Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy With or Without Second-Look Surgery Followed by Radiation Therapy With or Without Peripheral Stem Cell Transplantation in Treating Patients With Intracranial Germ Cell Tumors

    RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Giving a chemotherapy drug before surgery may shrink the tumor so that it is no longer present by conventional imaging and tumor markers from serum and cerebrospinal fluid. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Peripheral stem cell transplantation may allow the doctor to give higher doses of chemotherapy drugs and kill more tumor cells. Combining different types of therapy may kill more tumor cells.

    PURPOSE: This Phase II trial is studying how well neoadjuvant chemotherapy with or without surgery and with or without high dose chemotherapy and peripheral stem cell transplantation, can increase response rates prior to radiation therapy and increase progression free and overall surviving patients with newly diagnosed intracranial germ cell tumors.

  • Ibrutinib, Idarubicin and Cytarabine in Treating Patients With Relapsed or Refractory Acute Myeloid Leukemia

    This phase I trial studies the side effects and best dose of ibrutinib when given together with idarubicin and cytarabine in treating patients with acute myeloid leukemia that has returned after a period of improvement or has not responded to previous treatment. Ibrutinib may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as idarubicin and cytarabine, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving ibrutinib together with idarubicin and cytarabine may kill more cancer cells.
