Umbrella

Assessing Need for Psychosocial Support in Families With a Child Undergoing Treatment

About

The purpose of this study is to clarify the nature and intensity of psychosocial stress as well as to determine current rates and types of mental health service use in families where a child is in treatment for pediatric cancer. Understanding family stress in this unique population will directly inform potential need for expansion of mental health services in pediatric oncology.

Further, it will allow for the development and delivery of psychosocial intervention strategies targeted at allaying specific domains of family stress such as parental communication and social support. Additionally, this study aims to investigate the role family communication plays in the relationship between parent illness uncertainty and emotion regulation difficulties while undergoing pediatric cancer treatment.

Specifically, this study will explore how parent-child communication may impact the relationship between parent uncertainty about their child's cancer and emotion regulation difficulties.
