Division Overview

Tanja Gruber, MD, PhD
Division Chief

The Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, Stem Cell Transplantation & Regenerative Medicine is one of 18 divisions in the Department of Pediatrics of the Stanford University School of Medicine, and currently includes 52 faculty members.  Our faculty are in the midst of one of the most stimulating and diverse intellectual environments, which embraces innovation and celebrates unconventional ideas and new perspectives. The Division faculty together strive to excel at the three traditional academic medical center missions:  outstanding clinical care, excellence in training and education, and impactful research.

The faculty are organized in three sections, hematology, oncology, stem cell transplantation & regenerative medicine, and are supported by a partnership between Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford Cancer Institute  and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital with Stanford Children’s Health Network.

Some faculty members serve two partner sites in the Northern California Bay Area, California Pacific Medical Center (San Francisco) and John Muir Hospital (Walnut Creek), with the remaining faculty located on the main campus (Palo Alto).

Our renowned faculty are experts in all areas of the field of pediatric hematology, oncology, stem cell transplantation and immunotherapy. Our faculty play a significant role on numerous local, national and international organizations.  The Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, Stem Cell Transplant & Regenerative Medicine at Stanford unequivocally stands for racial justice and acknowledges structural/societal barriers that have historically disadvantaged people of color in academia and medicine. We define underrepresented in medicine (URM) broadly to include race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, neurodivergence, and abilities. Our aim is to recruit culturally competent and conscientious faculty, staff, and trainees who perpetuate our guiding principles of inclusion and disparities reduction.
