Third-Year Fellows
Rebecca Jo Johnson, MD
Medical School
University of Nebraska College of Medicine
Pediatrics Residency
Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, Stanford University
I am so incredibly excited to be starting my Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship at Stanford this summer. I had the privilege to complete my pediatric residency training at Stanford and the Bay Area quickly felt like home, and I could not feel more honored to continue my training here. I was born and raised in Nebraska, completed college in New York and ultimately returned to Nebraska for medical school. I met my husband, Kaleb, in medical school – he is thrilled to also join the Stanford family and is starting his Nephrology fellowship here this summer!
Throughout my residency training I became involved in various clinical and quality improvement projects that I hope to continue during my fellowship training. I am currently working on a study that is exploring transgender-specific interventions within school systems and how it relates to perceptions of support and acceptance to transgender youth. I was also involved in a quality improvement project targeting the safe administration of inpatient short-acting insulin and was proud that it resulted in the creation of a clinical pathway for short-acting insulin ordering and administration, which was approved by the Packard Clinical Pathway Committee and is currently linked to an order set within EPIC!
During my free time I enjoy traveling with my husband – we love exploring California and discovering all the wonderful hikes that the state has to offer! We also have a border collie, Addie, who accompanies us on all of our adventures. I also love cooking, baking, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Medical School
University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine,
Pediatrics Residency
University of Miami/Jackson Health System
Most of my time growing up was spent in South Florida until college when I went to Florida State University and majored in Biology. During my gap year, I spent a year in Tallahassee providing behavior therapy to children with various developmental needs before I was accepted for medical school at the University of Miami (The U) where I also stayed for residency. Through my medical training I found I had a passion for adolescent care as well as the interface between patients and technology, making Pediatric Endocrinology at Stanford the perfect fit. My professional interests include behaviorism, informatics, and health equity.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy reading sci-fi/fantasy, playing Ultimate frisbee, and feeding my laner.
Second-Year-Fellows
Daniela Aguilar Abisad, MD
Medical School
Tecnológico de Monterrey Escuela de Medicina
Pediatrics Residency
Nicklaus Children's Hospital
I was born and raised in Tampico, a small city in northeastern Mexico. I moved to Monterrey for medical school where I met my husband Rodrigo. During my community service year after med school, I worked as one of the primary physicians in one of Mexico’s largest Child Protective Services (DIF) institutions, where I had the opportunity to care for and empower children with type 1 diabetes who lived there. I was moved by how education and compassion can change a child’s life! I did my residency at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami, where alongside great mentors and friends I was able to publish a systematic review in pediatric thyroid storm. I am really grateful and thrilled to be starting my peds-endocrine fellowship at Stanford! I am passionate about type 1 diabetes and new technologies, as well as advocacy and health equity.
During my free time I enjoy exploring nature and coffee shops with my husband! I also love reading, cooking, and playing the piano.

Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University
Pediatrics Residency
Hasbro Children's Hospital, Brown University
I grew up between Gig Harbor, WA, and Munich, Germany with German as my native language. I moved to the East Coast following high school graduation to attend Brown University where I received my undergraduate degree in Biology with a focus on Physiology/Biotechnology. I stayed in Rhode Island to attend the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. In between medical school and the start of residency, I spent one year abroad exploring my interests in global health and academic medicine, working at the Angkor Hospital for Children in Siem Reap, Cambodia learning how to practice medicine in a resource-limited setting and at the University Children’s Hospital in Tübingen, Germany, conducting research in Pediatric Endocrinology. I then completed my Brown Pediatrics Residency at Hasbro Children’s Hospital where I continued to be involved in various research and medical education projects. I am so excited to be doing my fellowship at Stanford!
During my free time, I enjoy traveling and spending time outdoors, hiking, skiing, camping and biking with my husband Brendan (a medical critical care fellow), and our dog, Otto.
First-Year-Fellows
Jeffrey Ferrell, MD
Medical School
University of Florida College of Medicine
Pediatrics Residency
University of California, San Francisco
I was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida with my twin sister Julia. Yes, we absolutely did have manatees and alligators in our backyard growing up! I went to undergrad at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama where I learned how to identify plants and fish in the streams across the road from campus, slang lots of mud learning ceramics, travelled to Spain for a summer to complete my Spanish minor and had my marching band debut playing the mellophone (the French horn’s little brother and much easier to walk with).
I went to the University of Florida for medical school where I was serendipitously placed on the endocrinology elective during my pediatrics rotation. The first week, I participated in a youth gender clinic, type 1 and type 2 diabetes clinics, an endocrine clinic and a Prader Willis clinic. The next week I learned firsthand what it means to live with diabetes from the incredible kids at Florida Diabetes Camp. I was SOLD! I began working with the pediatric endocrinology team at UF and we were able to fight for gender affirming EHR changes as well as create and present a workshop on transgender health for PAS.
I then left the south and moved cross-country to start pediatrics residency at the University of California, San Francisco. During that time, I continued to work closely with the pediatric endocrinology department, publishing a paper looking at presence of auto-antibodies in children with type 2 diabetes and once again acting as medical staff at the local diabetes camp.

Pediatrics Residency
Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, Stanford University
I was born at Stanford Children's Hospital and am so thankful to be able to continue my medical training here! I have bounced back and forth between California and Oregon for most of my adult life - I was raised in the Bay Area and then attended University of Oregon Honors College where I majored in Environmental Science. After college, I returned to Palo Alto where I worked as a research coordinator for Stanford Dermatology. I went back to Oregon for medical school at OHSU where I also received my Masters in Public Health from Portland State University. My husband and I were thrilled to be able to move back to the Bay Area for my Pediatrics residency at Stanford/LPCH and now stay for Endocrinology fellowship. My research interests include clinical care of Diabetes Insipidus and equity within Type 1 diabetes management.
My son was born at LPCH during my residency and our little family loves exploring local coffee shops and trying new pastries. We also have two little terrier mutts, Steve and Stan.
