Why did you join Nourish?

"Health disparities stemming from the lack of disease prevention resources and awareness of nutrition is not a narrative unique to me and my family. As a Bay Area resident, I have seen other non-native patients grapple with the same medical barriers my parents faced as immigrants—the lack of provider cultural competency and representation of minority populations in healthcare and research. I joined Nourish because it serves to bridge these disparities that have hindered the ability for my family and peers to have access to quality, personalized care. Whether it be creating diabetes-friendly recipes for different Asian cuisines, implementing an online nutrition education platform to advance nutrition awareness in Asian communities, or partnering with local organizations to disseminate Nourish’s resources, I am driven to engage in these initiatives for the betterment of the wellbeing of my community."

Maria Gadiwala

Bio

I graduated in May 2022 from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Food and Nutrition Entrepreneurship. I live in Kuwait, which is in the heart of the Middle Eastern region. I have had the opportunity to try many varied cuisines and love to blend different flavors in my own cooking."

Why did you join Nourish?

"As an Indian raised in the Middle East, I feel that a lot of the nutrition advice available out there is focused on the Western diet. I love the idea behind Nourish, where nutritional advice is directed towards Asian food. We can continue to enjoy the food we have grown up with, but in a way that maintains our health.”"

Saakshi Arvikar

I'm in the second year of my bachelor's degree in Health, Engineering Science, and Entrepreneurship at McMaster University in Canada, and have an interest in the intricacies of medicine and the dynamics of healthcare. I'm passionate about music and theatre, medical-based advancements, community leadership, and anything that can combine those things.

Why did you join Nourish?

"I joined Nourish because it combined my love for medicine and an interconnected community, and I have the privilege of contributing to meaningful change in North America. I look forward to developing recipes, cookbooks, and any other projects for Nourish to help people both in my family and across the country manage a diabetic lifestyle in an enjoyable way."

Why did you join Nourish?

Diabetes, cancer, and other health problems run in my family. I've seen firsthand how nutrition plays a big role and how discouraging it can be when you think the majority of your dietary freedom is being taken away. I joined Nourish because I believe nutrition and healthy eating don't have to take away from our food, enjoyment, or culture — we just need to be a little more creative.
