How to Use the Remote-Learning Curriculum

The main way to teach this curriculum is to lead the class remotely through the slides on Zoom or another live video conferencing platform. Another option is for students to do the curriculum on their own (scroll down on this page to read more under Self-Paced Version).

Important things to remember as you go forward:

1. Slide set: This slide set includes the informational content of the curriculum; Teacher Talking Points are provided in the notes section of each slide.

2. Student worksheet: This allows students to assess their content knowledge and share their opinions through either a Google form or a Microsoft Word document. The Google form allows you to compile all student responses in one Google sheet viewable only to you. The Word document is a fillable form that students can return to you via email.

3. Surveys: Please note that we are encouraging students to take a pre- and post-curriculum anonymous survey (it's one of the first slides and last slide in the slide set) that will be used by our team.

Procedure

If you have the capacity to host live video conferences with your students via platforms like Zoom or Google Hangouts, we recommend following the instructions below.

1. Download the slide set file or make a copy of the Google Slides version before you plan on hosting a live video conference and review the Teacher Talking Points

2. If you choose to use the Google form student worksheet, you can make a copy of the form and save it to your Google Drive (you do not need to request editing access), then send the link to the form to students. If you choose to use the Word student worksheet, download the file and email it to students.

3. Ask your students to complete the pre- and post-surveys. Students can scan the QR code on the 2nd slide to access the student pre-survey, or use the link provided on the slide. At the end, please again ask the students to complete the post-survey. Please remind your students that the survey is anonymous and encourage them to fill it out completely.

4. Please remember at the end of the lessons, we would like for you to complete the educator post-survey found here: https://tinyurl.com/captimplementation

5. You can "share your screen" to display the slide set and read the Teacher Talking Points found in the notes section to deliver the lesson. Facilitate as much discussion as time allows.

6. We recommend spending at least one hour when using live video conferencing or spreading it out over three sessions to allow for maximum student discussion. If you have 3 classes or 3 hours to teach this curriculum then view the Daily Lesson Plan at the top of the page.

7. The Quick Check-In slides throughout the slide set indicate where you can pause and allow students to answer questions on the student worksheet, in whichever format you choose. Or, if you prefer, have students fill-in the student worksheet after you present.
