Dr. Bernard is currently an active duty Major in the U.S. Air Force. He served as the Chief of the Consultation-Liaison Service at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, TX, from 2021 – 2024. At BAMC, he implemented a hospital-wide Psychiatry education plan, revitalized the C-L rotation curriculum and trained students and residents as faculty at UTHSCSA and Uniformed Services University (USU). During the fellowship, he will specialize in Critical Care Psychiatry given its translation to LSCO and hopes to eventually direct a C-L fellowship within the military.

He joined the USAF as a direct accession through the Financial Assistance Program (FAP) during his last year of medical school at LSUHSC in Shreveport, LA. He completed Psychiatry residency at UAB in Birmingham, AL, where he served as Chief resident, completed an Aerospace Medicine clerkship via NASA/JSC and presented a grand rounds on Space Psychiatry.  Dr. Bernard holds multiple positions in the APA, including Outreach Chair for the Society of Uniformed Services Psychiatrists (SUSP), the Area 5 ECP Assembly Rep and was recently appointed to the Council on Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. He is also a member of the ACLP’s military/veterans SIG. He is a proud Cajun from New Orleans, LA, and enjoys gumbo, boudin, crawfish and king cake.

Dr. Jordan Broadway was born and raised in South Carolina. She completed her undergraduate studies in Biomedical Science at Idaho State University and attended medical school at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr. Broadway completed psychiatry residency at Duke University, where she was Chief Resident of Central Regional Hospital before serving as Executive Chief Resident during her final year. She has professional interests within medical education and leadership development, which is demonstrated by her participation within the Clinician Educator Track and the Duke Resident Council.

Dr. Broadway is pursuing additional training in Consult Liaison psychiatry, which reflects her clinical interest in the interface between medical and psychiatric illness. Her other interests include neuromodulation and movement disorders.

Dr. Scott B. Mathis was born, raised, and educated in the state of Texas. He completed his undergraduate education at Texas Christian University (go frogs), majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Business. He then returned to his hometown of Houston to attend McGovern Medical School followed by completing psychiatry residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. While at JPS, he served as Chief Resident of Academics and Chief of Operations. He went on to become Resident Director of Extramural Education where he could focus on teaching by giving lectures to both medical students and other medical institutions in the area.

Dr. Mathis is continuing his training in Consult-Liaison Psychiatry to further his knowledge in critical care psychiatry, mentorship, and skills as an educator. Following fellowship, he plans to further contribute to the education of the next generation of psychiatrists through clinical education. When not at the hospital, he can be found playing stringed instruments or delving into history.

Sue England, LCSW, is a skilled clinician and serves as a Stanford Complex Care Manager. She focuses on emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention, and complex care coordination. Sue has over 30 years of experience working in various areas of Psychiatry within Stanford Health Care, providing brief therapy, crisis intervention, comprehensive assessments and treatment plans that integrate psychological factors and physical health. She has received multiple awards including two Appreciation Awards from the Stanford Psychiatry Residency and the Eleanor Clark Award for Innovative Programs in Patient Care from the Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care.

Dr. Derek Pipolo, originally from Los Angeles, California, relocated to Argentina during his early adolescence, earning his medical degree from the National University of Rosario – College of Medical Sciences. During medical school, he discovered his passion for neuroscience, serving as a dissector and researcher for the Department of Normal Anatomy. Following medical school, Dr. Pipolo embraced diverse roles, beginning as an emergency department physician, before venturing into neurosurgery as a resident at the University of Buenos Aires. His commitment extended beyond clinical practice to educational leadership through his role as a member of the Sub-committee of Residents of the Argentine Association of Neurosurgery, leading several educational initiatives for neurosurgical trainees.

The widespread impact of mental illness during the COVID-19 pandemic motivated Dr. Pipolo to return to the United States, inspiring a career shift towards Psychiatry. Currently a Research Assistant in the Division of Medical Psychiatry, he manages the Medical Psychiatry Research Laboratory and actively contributes to clinical trials focusing on delirium, exploring complementary methods and clinical screening tools utilized for the early detection of this condition. Dr. Pipolo's future aspirations include applying for a psychiatry residency, with a specific interest in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
