Students will learn about harm reduction concepts and strategies, including ways to not use at all, that will empower them to make healthy choices for themselves and others regarding substance use.

 

Learning Objectives

By hearing and participating in this lesson, students will:
 
  • Recognize the ways in which drug use may potentially harm them, by exploring the health-related harms, academic harms, legal harms, and social-emotional harms. 

  • Identify the harms and real and perceived benefits of drug use. 

  • Establish key harm reduction strategies to not use or reduce harm if already using drugs.

  • 1.12.5 Propose ways to reduce or prevent injuries and health problems.
  • 2.12.7 Analyze how the perception of norms influence healthy and unhealthy behaviors.
  • 5.12.2 Determine the value of applying a thoughtful decision-making process in health-related situations.
