Bio

Dr. Mark Kay completed his MD and PhD at Case Western Reserve University before moving to Baylor College of Medicine in 1987. There, he undertook a residency and fellowship specializing in Pediatrics, Medical Genetics, and Inborn Errors of Metabolism. During his postdoctoral fellowship at Baylor, he began his pioneering work in gene therapy.

He established his independent research career at the University of Washington in 1993 and was recruited to Stanford University in 1998. Dr. Kay's research program is distinguished by its breadth and depth, encompassing a wide range of fields from gene transfer vectors and genome engineering to non-coding RNA biology. His work is notable for its trajectory, spanning from fundamental scientific inquiry to successful clinical trial implementation. In his personal time, he enjoys photography, music, tennis, and spending time with his partner and adult children.
