Katie Ettman
Food and Agriculture Policy Manager

Bio

Katie supports SPUR’s work to create a Bay Area where everyone has enough food to lead a healthy life and where we produce food in a way that supports both the environment and an equitable economy. In addition, she serves on both the CUESA Education Committee and the SF Market Strategy Committee. Prior to joining SPUR, she worked with the Food Bank of the Rockies in Denver, Colorado managing the procurement of fruits and vegetables for 30 counties in Colorado and the state of Wyoming. Katie earned her Master’s of Public Administration from The University of Colorado Denver and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Communication and Community and International Development from The University of Vermont. Her favorite food is asparagus! 

Nanyelis Diaz-Chapman
Program Manager

Bio

Nanyelis Diaz Chapman currently serves as Program Manager for the Office of Kat Taylor. Her work includes facilitating outreach and partnerships for Growing The Table, an initiative to support the best of California agriculture, especially BIPOC producers, in order to nourish families, reduce food waste, and save farms during the COVID-19 crisis. Her work is focused on shifting demand in the food supply chain towards a regenerative future and ensuring greater racial and gender equity in the new economy. Nanyelis efforts have helped amass nearly 3M in funds overall for the program that have impacted 150+ farmers in California since the beginning of the pandemic. Her passion to assist others has roots in her previous work as a Case Manager for domestic violence survivors at St. Vincent De Paul in San Francisco, CA. She also served as a Child Protection Investigator for the Department of Children & Families in Miami, FL. After migrating from Miches, Dominican Republic at the age of 10, she became a U.S citizen in 2013 while still a Sophomore at The University of South Florida. Diaz holds Dual Degrees in International Affairs and Criminal Justice. Her favorite foods are tacos, empanadas, and tres leches cake.

Bio

Gaya Amirthavasar is the Social Determinants of Health Manager at Santa Clara Family Health Plan (SCFHP), a community health plan. She oversees the Community Supports program for Medi-Cal members and is developing SCFHP's social determinants of health. Gaya's has a degree in kinesiology and Masters in Health Research Methods. She has worked in many areas of healthcare including the community, public health, hospitals and long-term care, primarily focused on program development, quality improvement and research and evaluation. Gaya hopes to demonstrate how health plans can impact many areas of social determinants of health and the unique role they plan in serving some of the more vulnerable populations. She loves all sorts of foods, but she can't go wrong with a spicy dish like panang curry and some coconut rice.

Teresa Johnson

Bio

Teresa has spent her entire career working in the non profit community. She was previously employed by the Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce and Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley. Teresa has 40 years of program management experience. Her current position is close to her heart and she has great passion for her work in providing health, nutritious food to people with health risks. Her favorite food is grilled salmon.
