COACHME 101: Core Coaching Skills

Course Policy
Full course registration and payment are required for participation. Registration is confirmed by email. Courses are held online by zoom. Stanford COACHME Office reserves the right to decline registration and refund payment as it deems necessary. Participants must abide by Stanford University policies including the Fundamental Standard and other conduct guidelines.
Eligibility
Our COACHME courses are currently open only to holders of doctoral degrees in the health professions (including MD, PhD, PsyD, DNP).
Successful completion of all workshops in the 30-hour series (COACHME 101 through 901) qualifies participants to register for and take the Center for Credentialing & Education's (CCE) Board Certified Coach (BCC) exam upon meeting additional CCE requirements (Requirements | BCC (cce-global.org).
COACHME@Stanford” is a Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE) Registered 1050- BCC training provider. This course is approved as 30 hours for BCC training course.

COACHME 101: Introduction to Coaching in Medical Education: Coaching Core Skills Workshop (4 hours)
This introductory course is a prerequisite for all our more advanced courses.
This fast-paced, interactive course will discuss the evidence that points to how coaching enhances performance and, in clinical settings, averts burnout. The course will provide you with key tools and processes that support your incorporating coaching in your existing leadership, mentoring, and educational practices.
After participation in this course, you will start to see notable differences when applying specific coaching skills to your repertoire: in the quality of conversation with others, both in the level of engagement by them and their continued motivation to achieve.
Learning Objectives:
To arm you with foundational coaching skills to increase the impact of your conversations in your day-to-day work. By the end of this session, participants will be able to
- Explain the difference between coaching, mentoring, & advising
- Describe how to safeguard the coach/coachee partnership
- Discuss key elements of a coaching conversation: content & process
- Explore examples of coaching tools
- Prepare for threats, including implicit bias & imposter syndrome
- Consider opportunities to integrate scale-up coaching in your program
Course Format:
One 4-hour workshop (occasionally split into two 2-hour sessions)
