Bio
Sally S. Li is the founding Executive Director for the Stanford Center for Asian Health Research and Education (CARE).
Since joining CARE in 2020, Sally has led CARE's phenomenal growth from "zero to one”, and has quickly helped establish CARE as a premier leader in Asian health research and education. Currently, Sally oversees the setting and execution of CARE's strategic vision and mission. In consultation with CARE's faculty co-directors, she leads long-range strategic planning, business development and stewardship programs. She is responsible for the operational excellence and financial health of the center, including budget oversight, program stewardship, and business and revenue development, aiming to secure the sustainability of CARE. She hired and manages a highly professional operations and programs team to maximize the impacts of CARE in research, education, community and public health policy initiatives. Moreover, Sally strategically represents CARE and leads engagements across the university and with external constituencies including the CARE Advisory Board, government officials, foundation representatives, community and corporate partners.
Prior to joining Stanford, Sally had over 25 years of experience as a successful business executive with Silicon Valley firms. She has held co-founder, executive managerial and leadership positions in product management, strategic planning, business development, marketing, finance, administration, and operations with both startups and publicly traded tech companies, including Google and Dolby. In addition, as a highly engaged community leader, Sally has served on the boards of a variety of non-profit organizations. Currently, she is a member of the Stanford Parents Club Board, a member of the Stanford Parents Advisory Board, as well as an executive on the Los Altos Robotics Board. In addition to her board of director positions, Sally volunteers as a youth robotics coach and has trained numerous international award-winning robotics teams and mentored rookie coaches since 2012. To recognize her contribution, NASA honored her with Outstanding Mentorship Award for youth robotics. Fluent in Mandarin and through her many facets of community leadership involvements in the past 30 years, Sally has developed deep roots in the Asian and Asian American communities. She is committed to rallying the Asian and American communities, both locally and across the Pacific Rim, to support Stanford CARE’s mission to improve the health of the Asians everywhere.
Sally is an avid golfer and enjoys reading, traveling, and the outdoors, particularly hiking around the Farm.
