About the speaker

Jedidiah Carlson, PhD

Research Associate in the Department of Integrative Biology,
University of Texas, Austin

Jedidiah Carlson earned a PhD in bioinformatics from the University of Michigan in 2018 and completed his postdoctoral training at the University of Washington Department of Genome Sciences. His research in human population genetics and experience communicating this work on social media motivated an interest in meta-research to quantify and characterize the societal impacts of contemporary scientific publications and discourse. For the past six years, his work in this area has highlighted how genetics research is frequently co-opted and weaponized by far-right extremists.
