• Manuka Honey in Preventing Esophagitis-Related Pain in Patients Receiving Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy For Lung Cancer

RATIONALE: Manuka honey may prevent or reduce esophagitis-related pain caused by chemotherapy and radiation therapy. It is not yet known whether Manuka honey is more effective than standard care in preventing pain.

PURPOSE: This randomized phase II clinical trial is studying Manuka honey to see how well it works in preventing esophagitis-related pain in patients receiving chemotherapy and radiation therapy for lung cancer.

  • Efficacy and Safety of Decitabine as Epigenetic Priming With Induction Chemotherapy in Pediatric Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) Subjects

The purpose of this study is to provide data on the activity of a standard daunorubicin, cytarabine, and etoposide (ADE) induction plus epigenetic priming with decitabine as assessed by standard measures of complete remission (CR), leukemia free survival (LFS) and overall survival (OS), as well as, on minimal residual disease (MRD). It will also provide necessary data on the safety and Pharmacokinetics (PK) of decitabine in pediatric patients that is currently unavailable.

  • Imaging Study of Chronic Low Back Pain in Patients Taking Pain Medication

Duloxetine has recently been shown to be effective in reducing the pain in chronic pain patients. Duloxetine is known to exert a central mechanism, however the precise human brain structures responsible for mediating its pain-relieving properties are not known. We will use functional magnetic resonance imaging (FMRI) to investigate the neural and functional correlates of pain.

  • Effect of Liraglutide (Victoza) on Inflammation in Human Adipose Tissue and Blood

The objective of this study is to test the hypothesis that liraglutide (commonly known as Victoza) can promote an anti-inflammatory macrophage phenotype in human adipose tissue and blood, thereby reducing localized and systemic inflammation which are risk factors for cardiovascular disease and may contribute to hyperglycemia. This will be done after 4 weeks of treatment during which weight will remain stable, and again after 12 weeks, during which liraglutide-related weight loss occurs.

  • Facilitated Antegrade Steering Technique in Chronic Total Occlusions (FAST-CTOs)

Prospective, non-randomized, multicenter study in subjects with coronary artery chronic total occlusions (CTOs). Published results of safety and effectiveness of conventional techniques will be used for comparison. Enrollment of up to 149 subjects with a CTO refractory to currently marketed guidewire use and meeting all inclusion/exclusion criteria at up to 15 US clinical sites. Hypothesis is that the BridgePoint Medical System is safe and effective in treating coronary CTOs compared to CTO literature.

  • Imaging and Biomarkers of Hypoxia in Solid Tumors

Hypoxia, meaning a lack of oxygen, has been associated strongly with a wide range of human cancers. Hypoxia occurs when tumor growth exceeds the ability of blood vessels to supply the tumor with oxygenated blood. It is currently understood that hypoxic tumors are more aggressive. Current methods for measuring hypoxia include invasive procedures such as tissue biopsy, or insertion of an electrode into the tumor. EF5-PET may be a non-invasive way to measure tumor hypoxia.

  • Inotuzumab Ozogamicin in Treating Younger Patients With B-Lymphoblastic Lymphoma or Relapsed or Refractory CD22 Positive B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

This phase II trial studies how well inotuzumab ozogamicin works in treating younger patients with B-lymphoblastic lymphoma or CD22 positive B acute lymphoblastic leukemia that has come back (relapsed) or does not respond to treatment (refractory). Inotuzumab ozogamicin is a monoclonal antibody, called inotuzumab, linked to a toxic agent called ozogamicin. Inotuzumab attaches to CD22 positive cancer cells in a targeted way and delivers ozogamicin to kill them.

  • Methotrexate For The Prevention and Treatment of Proliferative Vitreoretinopathy in Pediatric Patients

Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is a sight-threatening condition. Children with RRD usually present late with clinical features of longstanding RRD, specifically a serious condition named: proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR). Therefore, children with RRD often have poorer outcomes. The objective of this study is to investigate the efficacy and safety of methotrexate in the treatment and prevention of PVR. Methotrexate is a medication that has been used to treat inflammatory conditions in children and adults for a long time and it has been recently used to treat PVR in adults.
