Timeline and Guideline for users of room Sim1 G0809

Following rederivation or IVF, recipient mothers are housed in quarantine room Sim1 G0809.  Here is a timeline of what to expect.

  1. Once your rederivation/IVF is scheduled, you will need to order a sheet of cage card stickers through animaltrax to be sent to Sim1 room 809 if you have not done so already.
  2. On the day of rederivation/IVF, you will be updated on the rederivation by TKTC.
  3. Following rederivation, TKTC will care for and monitor the embryo recipient mothers weekly.  This includes removing wound clips, separating co-housed recipient mothers, and housing them with appropriate nesting material.   Tissue collection for genotyping can be requested for an additional fee.  Please contact TKTC before the pups are born, if you are interested in this procedure.
  4. After the pups are born (approximately 19 days after IVF) TKTC will notify you with the pup birth rates and an approximation of weaning date (approximately 21 days after birth).
  5. Once the pups are weaned, TKTC will notify you with detailed information on recipient mothers, the newly weaned pups, and the corresponding cage card numbers.  At this time, you will need to request pathogen testing from VSC.  Pathogen testing is taken place on surrogate mother(s), it can take at least 2 weeks.
  6. Once pathogen tests results return negative, you will be notified by VSC to transfer the weaned pups to your animal room.  Any remaining recipient mothers will be culled at this time.
