This workshop has 2 components, VSC-022A & VSC-0022B.
VSC-0022A, Web: Part A (STARS Course Name: Rodent Aseptic Surgery and the Evaluation of Pain and Distress) will show how to prepare surgical facilities and instruments and how to aseptically prepare the animal and surgeon. It includes instruction in anesthesia induction and maintenance, the expectations for monitoring and record keeping, and requirements for post-operative care and analgesia. Additionally, there will be training on recognition of pain and distress in rodents.
VSC-022B, Hands-On: Part B (STARS Course Name: Rodent Aseptic Surgery Workshop) This hands-on workshop will help you interpret Stanford’s rodent aseptic surgery technique guidelines, learn how to set up and maintain sterile technique when performing rodent surgery, choose appropriate instrument sterilization methods, and learn surgical wound closure techniques, including suture patterns. This is primarily a dry lab, using materials in place of live animals.
Prerequisite for Part B : VSC-0022A must be completed before signing up for VSC-0022B.
