Our Approach

identifying advancements in technology to better our lives

We dare to believe there's more to vision. We combine art, science, medicine, and technology to identify new ways of measuring, understanding, and optimizing health in both clinical and real-world settings.

new benchmarks for a new world

As our world evolves, the ‘real’ and the ‘digital’ are becoming inextricably intertwined.

Bridging the physical and the digital.

We redefined vision for performance in daily life.

People are going through a paradigm shift from physical to digital worlds. Our days are dominated by technology. By approaching society's digital behavior holistically via the eye, brain, and body, we are able to understand and improve human performance in the comfort and context of everyday life.

How have we changed history?

Vision Performance Index (VPI®)

We created the Vision Performance Index (VPI®).

For the first time in almost 200 years, we've built an approach that is relevant to the times and up to date with the technologies present.

VPI® is a performance benchmark comprised of hundreds of different psychometrics related to the eye, brain, and body. We break down VPI® into 5 components that can help people understand the contexts of their behavior in daily life: field of view, accuracy, multi-tracking, endurance, and detection.

What does this actually mean?

We can understand more about ourselves and how we perform than we've ever been able to before.

Why is it cool?

We've proven the eye, brain, and body connection using everyday technology.

We take a holistic approach to vision by looking at the eyes as an extension of the brain and body.

We are now able to evaluate, assess and diagnose in both digital and physical environments. Using consumer devices, we can understand behavior in the context of a person's daily life, advancing both science and healthcare.

In the home

By 2025, there will be nearly 500 million smart homes worldwide. (Source)

In the workplace

In entertainment

By 2030 VR and AR technologies will have impacted the US economy by over $480 billion. (Source)

Why is it important?

Measures as relevant to our daily lives as vision itself.

We take numerous biological, psychological, and cognitive signals and make them easy to digest.

The old:

Previous methods segmented our health into areas like vision health, mental health, and physical health. To measure any particular segment we were limited to the resources available in a doctor's office.

The new:

By taking a holistic approach to the eye, brain, and body, we've been able to consolidate all these facets of health into accessible and informative measures.

Our new methodologies are seamless and can be applied anywhere at anytime, allowing us to understand and maximize our potential in all aspects of our daily lives.

We conducted a study with Esport professionals correlating their performance behavior with lifestyle factors.

For reference, VPI® is measured on a range of 55 - 145, with the population mean centered at 100. Click here to learn more.

We found there was a positive correlation between vision performance and sleep, with the best results after 7-8 hours of sleep.

We found there is a sweet spot of physical activity correlated to an increase in vision performance, with optimal results between 2-3 hours of weekly exercise.
