SCORE Participating Departments

Below are the list of departments participating in SCORE.

SCORE VSLO application deadlines differs from the standard Stanford Visiting Clerkship application deadlines noted here on the Clerkship Application & Period Dates.

For SCORE departments' specific deadlines, click the department link below to read further on clerkship descriptions and any application submittal deadline date noted.

Please only apply to the program that you are hoping to Match. The intent of SCORE is for the student to perform the away rotation in the field they plan to apply for Residency.

NOTE: Veterans Administration (VA) hospital sites have additional requirements which the visiting student will be required to comply with. See the specific set of VA requirements on the SCORE - How to Apply page.

VSLO applications for the 2026-27 Academic Year opens February 13, 2026. The deadline to submit your online application for most SCORE departments is Monday April 13, 2026; 5pm PST (updated). However, certain departments have an earlier deadline. These are noted here, as well as within the specific department links further below.

Otolaryngology: Early VSLO Deadline of April 3, 2026 - CLOSED
Emergency Medicine: Early VSLO Deadline of March 15, 2026 - CLOSED
Neurosurgery: 1st Review Deadline - February 6, 2026; 2nd Review Deadline - March 6, 2026 - Review cycles are CLOSED
Urology: Early VSLO Deadline of March 13, 2026 - CLOSED

All SCORE applicants will be notified latest by May 20, 2026.

Anesthesia

SCORE Anesthesia rotations are for 4-weeks and cannot be taken as a 2-week rotation. The student will be placed in the General Operating Room (ANES 300A) for 2-weeks, followed by 2-weeks in a subspecialty, based on availability. Subspecialty options may include (ANES 300P, ANES 302A, ANES 304A, ANES 307A, ANES 311A). Students are advised to take these combined 2-week rotations for a total of 4-weeks within the same listed Period dates.

An EARLY VSLO DEADLINE of March 15, 2026 applies to Emergency Medicine SCORE applications. Approved EMED applicants for SCORE will be notified by SCORE manager between March 22 and March 24, 2026 prior to receiving the official registration from Stanford Clerkship Administration. Students accepts or declines offer between March 25 and March 26, 2026.

Applicants not approved to rotate via the SCORE program will still be considered for the visiting clerkship. Their SCORE application will serve as the basis for this review and offers will be extended to eligible applicants directly in VSLO.

EMED 313A Emergency Medicine Clerkship (SUMC, Kaiser Santa Clara**)
- During this 4-week selective, medical students will develop critical skills in the rapid evaluation and management of undifferentiated and acutely ill patients at the new, state of the art Stanford University Medical Center (SUMC). Students will be introduced to and gain longitudinal training in Precision Emergency Medicine. Students will be paired with a faculty coach in order to maximize educational opportunities and feedback over the four weeks. With a high level of mentorship and guidance, learners will gain confidence assessing and resuscitating the incredible spectrum of patients.

**Students are responsible for their own transportation to commute to the Kaiser Santa Clara location (710 Lawrence Expressway, Santa Clara, CA 95051).

Neurosurgery

1st Review Cycle or 2nd Review Cycle is required for inquiry of the Neurosurgery Sub Internship before you begin your SCORE online application. Contact Shanna Selsor at selsor@stanford.edu for the Review Cycle request. The Review Cycle applications are processed on a two-cycle basis following the below dates. Inform Shanna that you are applying for SCORE.

Note that the "First Review" deadline of Feb 6, 2026 and/or "Second Review" deadline of Mar 6, 2026 must be completed before beginning your SCORE application in VSLO. Review cycles are CLOSED.

It is important to note the Review cycles deadlines above before beginning your SCORE application. You cannot submit an application for Neurosurgery via VSLO if you have not met those Review cycle deadline dates. Review Cycles are CLOSED
