Stanford Clinical Opportunity for Residency Experience Program

1. Increase recruitment of diverse trainees into academic medicine.
2. Provide education and career development in support of Stanford Medicine’s mission.
3. Enhance the educational experience of Stanford medical students by increasing interactions with trainees from diverse backgrounds.
4. Foster opportunities for collaboration with other institutions where the visiting trainees are based.

• SCORE brings fourth-year medical students from diverse backgrounds to Stanford for a maximum four-week residential clinical training program in one of the clinical departments:
  
  • Stanford Hospitals & Clinics, or
  • Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital
• SCORE students will be matched with faculty and resident mentors who share similar clinical interests
• The students will participate in mentorship activities with a clinical advisor, as well as clinical rotations, programs, and activities with Stanford medical students
• If desired, participants may also be connected with a research advisor; however, note that the SCORE Program does not offer research opportunities
• The choice of subspecialty elective will be made in conjunction with the department, depending on availability of that elective and the completion of required application information

• SCORE will award a $5,500 stipend approximately three (3) to five (5) business days before the first day of the scheduled rotation period
• SCORE will waive the $200 standard application fee; however, applicants applying are responsible for any fees accessed by VSLO
  
• SCORE students receive mentorship from outstanding Stanford faculty members
• SCORE students participate in special program activities designed to form connections with Stanford faculty, residents, and students
• SCORE collaborates with other units, e.g. Office of Faculty Development and Diversity, Graduate Medical Education, Center of Excellence in Diversity in Medical Education, and Stanford University Minority Medical Alliance, among many others, to promote a robust experience during the student's rotation

NOTE: The student is responsible for their own transportation and housing during their rotation with SCORE.

• The student must be in good academic standing and enrolled in their fourth or final year M.D. or D.O. degree program during their elective rotation at Stanford - current 3rd year medical students (rising 4th year students)
  
• The student must also be from a school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or Education Department of the American Osteopathic Association
• Applicants must express strong interest in applying to a Stanford residency program. Selection will be based on past clinical and academic achievement
• If applicable, students must have completed the core clerkship relating to the department that they have chosen to do the elective (e.g. if interested in pursuing an elective in pediatric infectious diseases, the student must have already completed the core clerkship in pediatrics at their medical school)
• Each participating Department will select its own participants
• Please only apply to the program that you are hoping to Match. The intent of SCORE is for the student to perform the away rotation in the field they plan to apply for Residency
• MD students with their home school outside the U.S. are not eligible to apply for the SCORE program. These applicants should consider applying for participation in the International Visiting Student Program.

Please Note: If you are an international medical student with your home school located outside the U.S., you are not eligible for the SCORE Program. International medical students should consider applying for participation in the International Visiting Student Program.
