Students Must Have Completed and Must Provide Proof of Required Immunizations and/or Tests for Medical Clearance:

MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 

Measles and Mumps - 2 doses of live vaccines or laboratory evidence of immunity
Rubella -  1 dose of live vaccines or laboratory evidence of immunity

Varicella: 

2 doses of live vaccines or laboratory evidence of immunity

Hepatitis B:

3-dose or 2-dose of (HEPLISAV-B) Hep B vaccine series, and laboratory evidence of immunity (Hepatitis B Surface Antibody [anti-HBs]). 

Tdap (Tetanus+Diphtheria+Pertussis): 

Tdap booster (booster without Pertussis is not compliant), must be within past 10 years from the last day of the quarter

Flu Vaccine:

Required seasonally October thru March (evidence of flu shot for 2025-2026 season)

Tuberculin Test:

TB testing completed within 12 months prior to end of the clerkship, with laboratory evidence of negative QuantiFERON Gold or T-spot blood test.  PPD is not acceptable.

If history of a positive TB skin or blood test, a chest x-ray completed within 12 months of start of clerkship accompanied by positive TB test results.

Valid TB Test Dates for the 2025-26 Clerkship Year:

Spring Quarter 2025-26:

• Period 10 last day: April 26, 2026; (test results must be after April 26, 2025)
• Period 11 last day: May 24, 2026; (test results must be after May 24, 2025)
• Period 12 last day: June 21, 2026; (test results must be after June 21, 2025) 

Valid TB Test Dates for the 2026-27 Clerkship Year:

Summer Quarter 2026-27:

• Period 1 last day: July 26, 2026; (test results must be after July 26, 2025)
• Period 2 last day: August 23, 2026; (test results must be after August 23, 2025)
• Period 3 last day: September 20, 2026; (test results must be after September 20, 2025)          

Autumn Quarter 2026-27:

• Period 4 last day: October 18, 2026; (test results must be after October 18, 2025)
• Period 5 last day: November 15, 2026; (test results must be after November 15, 2025)
• Period 6 last day: December 13, 2026; (test results must be after December 13, 2025)  

Winter Quarter 2026-27:

• Period 7 last day: January 31, 2027; (test results must be after January 31, 2026)
• Period 8 last day: February 28, 2027; (test results must be after February 28, 2026)
• Period 9 last day: March 28, 2027; (test results must be after March 28, 2026) 

Spring Quarter 2026-27:

• Period 10 last day: April 25, 2027; (test results must be after April 25, 2026)
• Period 11 last day: May 23, 2027; (test results must be after May 23, 2026)
• Period 12 last day: June 20, 2027; (test results must be after June 20, 2026) 

Per the MD Program Student Handbook, section 3.26, “All medical students (MD & MSPA) are required to be fit tested for a N95 respirator mask on an annual basis.” Upon admission to the program, students must complete and submit documentation of 1) medical evaluation / clearance, 2) respiratory protection training, and 3) fit testing to specifically obtain N95 respirator use approval. For questions, contact the IVS Program office or the Stanford University Occupational Health Center.

IVS students will take the Respiratory Mask Fit Certification on the first day of rotation at Stanford University.

The student must be covered by professional liability and malpractice insurance at a level of at least $1,000,000 primary/$3,000,000 aggregate. Students are required to provide a Certificate of Coverage indicating provided limits and effective dates of coverage. The document must be in effect for the period of the requested elective clerkship. A sample list of Professional Insurance Companies some IVS students have used in the past is provided below.
